Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician, under the direction of the Operations Manager is Responsible for performing general maintenance and repairs on facility equipment property structures and grounds maintenance. All work will be completed in compliance with EPA, Hazmat, and OSHA safety rules and regulations.
Job Duties
The following include, but are not limited to essential functions of the position.
- Cleans windows, sweeps, scrubs, mops, and waxes floors, vacuums, dusts, cleans the commercial kitchen, moves furniture, removes garbage from building and individual units regularly, and places it in the dumpster outside the building.
- Performs a wide variety of repairs and maintenance tasks, i.e. clearing stoppages in sinks, urinals and toilet bowls, sewer lines, light bulbs, and lighting fixtures.
- Removes snow and ice from walkways, parking lots, and roof systems.
- Cares for lawns, and shrubs and cleans sidewalks.
- Repairs and replaces floor tiles screens and windows.
- Repairs replaces, troubleshoots, and maintains electrical equipment.
- Perform inspections of the facilities to identify and resolve issues
- Check control panels and electrical wiring to identify issues
- Install appliances and equipment
- Performs inspections of the facility and grounds, smoke detectors, ramps, railings, emergency exits, signs, and lighting.
- Respond quickly in the event of an emergency, notify appropriate personnel, and follow safety protocol
- Coordinates and maintains safety plan and fire suppression system within the building.
- Implement preventative maintenance measures
- Maintains building carpets using carpet extraction equipment including pre-spotters, detergents, and biohazard kits as required.
- Maintains building floors including vinyl, vinyl composition tile (vct), ceramic tile, and floor coverings.
- Performs carpentry, drywall repair, and painting.
- Repairs and replaces or installs new plumbing fixtures.
- Assists with overseeing vendor-contracted work for quality and completeness.
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following:
- Knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of building/equipment safety standards.
- Knowledge of maintenance and housekeeping procedures and processes
- Knowledge of HVAC system repairs.
- Must establish and maintain effective communication with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
- Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Must be able to work extended hours when needed.
- Must be flexible and available to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must maintain confidentiality.
- Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check and complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of maintenance experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of electrical and plumbing repairs, troubleshooting, and installation.
- Certificate in HVAC, maintenance technology or relevant field
Certification(s) and/or Licenses Required
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver’s license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department.
- Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.

Position medium with lifting of 50 pounds maximum and frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds. Physical factors include constant use of hearing, near vision; frequent standing, walking, sitting, carrying, use of midrange/far vision, driving, travel, typing, bending; occasional pushing/pulling, stooping, kneeling, manual handling, use of smell, depth perception, color/field of vision. Working conditions include frequent exposure to weather, extreme heat/cold, wet/humidity, noise and occasional exposure to air quality. Potential hazards include constant client contact, computer use; frequent equipment use and occasional exposure to insecticides/pesticides.
