PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
Sets up and operates heat treat machine to prescribed methods. Operates coating equipment to clean and color parts such as barrels, receivers, frames, and other component parts by moving work from carrier to holders and positioning holders to tank racks and/or baskets. Set up and make necessary adjustment to equipment in order to perform a variety of tumbling operations such as burnishing, cleaning, brightening by utilizing a variety of vibratory equipment to remove scale, rust and burrs, also to round corners, brighten and finishing a variety of steel component parts to quality standards. Sets up and operates roll stamp machines to perform roll stamping on a variety of component parts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Regulates temperature, controls atmosphere by regulating gas mixtures, monitors dew point and carbon level, and maintains quench media. Loads and unloads to prescribed cycle: loads into tempering ovens as required; washes parts. Uses Rockwell to test for prescribed hardness.
- With hoist, immerse through a series of cleaning, coating, rinsing, and oil tanks at prescribed cycles to complete parts to prescribed quality standards.
- Maintain tanks by checking meters, performing tank‑side tests of solution (titration) to ensure proper conditions and concentration of chemicals, checking temperatures using calibrated hand held thermometer to verify controller accuracy.
- Regularly clean fixtures and tanks by draining, cleaning, rinsing, and refilling order to maintain safe working conditions and quality operations. Maintain written records to track cleaning of tanks, chemical usage, temperatures of solutions, etc.
- Changes roll stamps and makes roll stamps adjustments as required.
- Visually inspects and gauges at prescribed frequencies, using prescribed methods to maintain quality standards.
- Performs any of several rough and finish hand polishing, buffing and brushing operations using various types of equipment, such as strappers, etc., on a wide variety of component parts, such as small parts, frames, receivers, barrels, ribs, etc.
- Applies parts against various types of wheels, wire brush, grit belts, etc., to produce finished parts. Selects and changes belts and wheels; shapes, dresses, balances and breaks down various types of wheels.
- Must maintain shapes, contours, dimensions and edges, and match and blend surfaces to accomplish quality finishes. Performs a variety of hand, chemical and/or machine operations to polish metal component parts to specification.
- Selects and changes belts and wheels; shapes, dresses, balances and breaks down various types of wheels. Make up proper wheels to polish difficult forms and radii on a variety of products. Establish polishing methods to produce a quality product in a timely manner etc. Make up new wheels to shorten polishing time.
- Load and unload parts and media with hoist or hand; add such materials as water, soap, rust preventive and cutting compounds and operate controls to complete cycle
- As required: separate and sort parts, and remove stones or other media imbedded in parts using various hand tools as appropriate.
- Transports and maintains materials and supplies within area as required.
- Maintains a clear and orderly work area. Clean and oil machines and maintains coolant/lubricant levels as required. Follows specific safety and operating procedures. Visually inspect part at prescribed intervals to maintain quality standards.
- Maintains standard level of production output given normal level of production interference with minimum supervision.
MINMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Job requires knowledge of and adherence to safety procedures. Must be able to use hand tools and power tools as required. May train or instruct others how to perform this job. May perform other related duties as assigned.
