What you will be doing:
Spotting cars on the correct track; moving empty cars and building the outbound train
Classification of inbound train
Interaction with Class One railroad
Visually inspect rail cars and perform air brake inspections
Cross-train and assist in the different functions performed at the facility
Operate a locomotive -we provide training and certification
Participate in and promote the Savage safety program/SHAPS
Requirements of a successful Rail Switchman:
Minimum of two years of switching experience
Work is performed within a refinery setting and requires all hires to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
Attend and pass all training associated with job-related coursework. This includes but is not limited to: OSHA, HazMat, and FRA related courses
Travel to other sites to assist in switching and training requirements
Willingness to wear required PPE
Work rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends
Read, write understand, and follow written and/or verbal instructions in English
Perform basic maintenance
Here are some of the physical requirements of this role:
Work outdoors in all-weather conditions in addition to walking, and standing on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time
Comfortable with heights
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
