The Terminal Master will be highly proficient in the creation of switch lists, directing switch crews to safely and efficiently conduct rail movements.
Here is what you will be doing:
Use yard management software and be able to quickly and clearly instruct teammates in how to use software
Create accurate switch lists and be able to train others on how to create accurate switch lists
Use problem solving skills to actively prevent logistics difficulties before they happen, train others on what to proactively look for
Actively monitor activities for safety, security, and accuracy within the yard using video monitoring equipment
Take lead role in supporting reporting needs from the Customer and Savage Logistics or Operations Managers, provide data and reports to aid the Logistics Manager in Customer discussions
Ensure adequate information and communication is conducted with the Union Pacific railroad
Performing recordkeeping duties related to the switch lists and instructions from Customer
Will need to accurately and professionally hand off logistics tasks surrounding shift changes, act as a mentor for new logistics Team Members
Act as a rail movement and safety specialist, including monitoring safe rail movement
Requirements of a successful Terminal Master:
Detailed understanding of the needs of rail switch crews, sign-off on Savage rail operating training
communicate detailed instructions but to instruct others in best practices for communication and tracking
Handle different and competing deadlines between Savage, the Class-1 Railroad, and the Customer’s logistics team
Trusted to work with limited supervision and to actively engage others
Understands the importance and demonstrates professionalism and Customer service, quickly and professionally responds to day-to-day Customer needs
Anticipate needs of the Operation/Managers/Team Members
Education/Experience:
5 Years’ experience in a rail-centric facility required
Experience not only using logistics-sensitive administrative tasks but instructing others how to perform them
High school graduate or GED equivalent required
Physical Requirements:
Office environment located in an industrial plant
Sit for prolonged periods of times but may go in the rail yard a handful of times per shift
Travel long distances, on occasion, for additional training or support
