Position Summary:
Keep buildings in clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors and removing rubbish. Duties may include performing routine building, yard landscaping and maintenance activities. This person also will assist in other shop duties such as tire changes, minor repairs and maintenance, overall shop cleanliness and running errands.
Here is what you will be doing, but not limited to the following:
Clean buildings and maintenance shop floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, squeegeeing, gathering, and emptying trash.
Organize shop benches and heavy mechanic’s working areas, responsible for overall shop and terminal cleanliness, maintain a clean and safe work environment
Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment in order to prevent damage to floors, walls, and fixtures.
Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created, notify managers concerning the need for major repairs and/or additions to building operating systems, work with the supervisor to requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties, maintaining a critical inventory of cleaning supplies.
Following a system for determining which tires need to be replaced, rotated, and/or repaired, reducing progressive maintenance, measure tread depth and monitor tire wear, keeping the fleet up to Savage and D.O.T. standards
Perform minor repairs and cleaning to the equipment and facilities, keeping them in safe condition
Work nights and weekends as scheduled, must be flexible with shift hour lengths
May have the opportunity to participate in the Safety Specialist program, which would most likely require travel to other locations.
Work alongside mechanics, managers, drivers, and other office personnel as a good team member
Respond to requests that will assist the location's team members in carrying out their job more efficiently by running errands and moving items to, from, and around locations
Able to work safely in adverse conditions: summer heat, wet (washing floors), rain, and cold
Must complete assigned Savage and customer CBT courses, as needed
Able to meet Savage and customer background requirements
Attend communication meetings and safety training as scheduled
Requirements of a successful Laborer:
Experience in a maintenance shop or industrial environment preferred but not required, previous cleaning experience preferred but not required
High School Diploma/GED
1 years applicable experience
Have a valid driver’s license, acceptable to Savage, and the ability to operate a service truck
Operate or move equipment around the yard and shop
Flexibility and ability to work on various shop, maintenance, and yard tasks
Be able to read, write, speak, and understand English and follow written and/or verbal instructions
