Position Summary:
Savage Marine is seeking a 3rd Assistant Engineer to join the crew of the M/V Abundance Harvest, a state-of-the-art refrigerated liquid ammonia carrier. As a 3rd Assistant Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the operation and maintenance of the vessel's machinery and systems. This position offers an excellent opportunity for career advancement and obtaining sought-after endorsements, such as the LNG PIC endorsement, in the fast-growing liquid ammonia industry.
Responsibilities / Job Duties:
Assisting the Chief Engineer and other engineering personnel in operating and maintaining the vessel's machinery, including engines, generators, pumps, and refrigeration systems.
Performing regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs on mechanical equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Monitoring and troubleshooting engineering systems to identify and resolve any issues that may arise during the voyage.
Following safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for the crew and the vessel's cargo.
Collaborating with other crew members to coordinate operational activities and ensure smooth functioning of the vessel.
Requirements/Qualifications:
The specific requirements for the 3rd Assistant Engineer position may vary, but typically, applicants should have the following qualifications:
Familiarity with Wartsila, EMD, and CAT engines preferred
Must hold a USCG Merchant Mariner Credential international and national endorsements capable of foreign voyages. Note: Submit a copy of your current MMC with your online application.
International STCW Endorsements: Officer in charge of an Engineering Watch (STCW III/1), Medical First Aid Provider (STCW A-VI/4-1), Able Seafarer-Engine (STCW III/5), RFPEW (STCW III/4), STCW Basic Safety Training (STCW VI/1), PSC (STCW VI/2), Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties (VPDSD) (STCW VI/6)
National Endorsements: Engineering Officer (3rd Assistant Engineer of Motor Propelled Vessels Unlimited Horsepower, QMED-Any Rating, Lifeboatman, Ordinary Seaman, Wiper, Steward’s Department (F.H.)
Tankerman Assistant limited to Dangerous Liquid (DL) Cargoes PIC endorsement is preferred
Submit a copy of current USCG/STCW medical certificate, renewed every 2 years with your online application
Submit copies of current valid TWIC card and Passport with your online application
Education/Experience:
High School diploma
Maritime Academy graduate preferred
ABS Nautical Systems NS5 experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
Physical Ability as required by the U.S. Coast Guard Medical Certification (Form CG-719K). Able to work, lift and carry loads greater than 25 pounds, climbing and descending ladders.
