What You Will Be Doing :
Work closely with operations managers and front-line team members at both locations to drive safety excellence in the field, with the Service Support Center (SSC) and Regional Business Unit Leadership Team in the implementation of Savage's overall Safety Strategy, with the Senior SH&E Manager and SH&E Director to deliver safety training to front-line Team Members
Supports Team Members in following proper safety rules and processes by completing daily safety observations, customer field audits, and verifying completeness of JHAs and adherence to work-permit processes, works with and supports the Safety Specialists (front-line safety) team
Performs and follows up on safety inspections, safety observations, and audits at operation, leads Savage team on customer safety audits
In the event of an incident, assist the Operation Managers to ensure the safety of everyone involved, incident investigation, lead the Root Cause Analysis process, and make corrections to eliminate repeat events, ensures incidents are properly reported to internal and external parties
Attends industry networking events, workshops, training, etc. to continue developing skills and knowledge related to safety, works to identify and implement industry-recognized best practices, Participates in host-sponsored contractor safety programs, and will serve on the customer's Contractor Safety Committee
Environmental stewardship and compliance : Assisting operations with complying with various environmental regulations, with support from our Environmental Team, including, air permitting, stormwater management, and fuel storage tank compliance
Occupational Health and Hygiene : assist our Team to ensure compliance with various occupational health exposures (air, noise, respiratory compliance, industrial ergonomics, etc.) with support from our Certified Industrial Hygiene (CIH) Team
Requirements To Be Successful in this position :
Maintains a current knowledge of rules, regulations, and compliance issues affecting the operation, including OSHA
Capable of handling multiple tasks while managing time effectively (able to plan, organize, and implement around priorities), possess an understanding of and commitment to the Savage System
Demonstrates by example the safety standards and values of Savage, able to work as a team, building the Savage Safety culture at the operations, understands or has been exposed to contractor safety programs, basic safety training, and customer safety policies
Communicates effectively both in front of a group or one-on-one and with all levels of management, excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and excellent organizational skills, people skills – good listener and communicator, ability to work with and perform computer operations (MS Office Suite), to analyze situations and data, and make sound decisions
Sets the standard for safety, professionalism, and performance, responds well to high-pressure situations, treats people fairly with dignity and respect and has impeccable integrity, embraces and teaches company culture
Able to pass a respirator fit test and wear respirators, as needed, to pass a background check
Has an “Ownership” spirit, and strong time management skills with a focus on being present in the field (80%) and office (20%)
Education / Experience
Previous supply chain, transportation, rail, or product loading / unloading safety experience is recommended
Regulatory Knowledge (OSHA, DOT)
1-3 years of safety experience working around industrial facilities
Knowledgeable in incident investigation and root cause analysis (RCA)
Delivery and / or development of various safety training
SH&E certifications or desire to pursue (CSP, CIH, OHST, SMS, etc.), a plus
Here are some of the Physical Requirements for this role :
Physical demands of the job include being able to walk one (1) to two (2) miles per shift
Ability to travel between the 2 sites, with occasional night and weekend safety visits
Must be comfortable working at heights, working around large trucks, trains, and able to climb ladders
Able to work outdoors in warm and humid environments, as well as seasonal cold environments, while wearing appropriate PPE
