Savage is hiring Locomotive Operators for our Terrell, NC operation.
What you need to be successful in this role:
Operate a locomotive - we can provide training and certification
The Locomotive Operator is responsible for daily railcar movement
Assist with spotting cars on the correct track; move empty cars and build the outbound train
Visually inspect rail cars and perform minor repairs
Prepare necessary paperwork associated with the movement of the railcars
Understand and adhere to rail rules and safety regulations as prescribed by Savage, our customer, and the Railroad
Willingness to work 12-hour rotating shifts
One year or more of Rail Industry experience is a plus
Work experience in an industrial environment is also a plus
Key strengths of the successful locomotive operator:
Understands the importance of good communication with the customer and other Savage employees
Understands the importance of customer service and able to deliver service to the customer professionally
Willing to complete switchmen, Locomotive and Distributive power training & general safety training
Strong communication and listening skills including the ability to read, write and understand
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work DuPont schedule
Must be able to climb on and off railcars and locomotives
Must be able to pass the plant's site requirement test
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Walk 1 miles per day on uneven terrain, etc.
Ability to work, walk, and stand on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time
