Well Servicing Derrick Hand Job Description
Reports to: Operator; Tool Pusher
General Summary of Position: Under the direction of the Operator and Tool Pusher, the Derrick Hand is responsible for monitoring and maintaining procedures of the daily operations of the rig while making sure that work is carried out in compliance with company policies and procedures and according to safety regulations. The Derrick Hand is responsible for and assists in all duties on the rig to include rigging up and down, working in the rod basket and tubing board, picking up or laying down tubing/rods, working the floors, and other duties as assigned.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
Ø Must be able to complete and pass all of the following:
o Drug Screening
o Fit for Duty Functional test
o Audiogram
o Criminal Motor Vehicle Record Background
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ø Assists the operator in rigging up and down (For example, set hydraulic jacks, handles pads/boards and assists in attaching the guy wires to the anchor)
Ø Responsible for all work performed for the rod basket and tubing board
Ø Assists in picking up or laying down tubing, manually lifting the tubing from the rack onto the work floor or vice versa
Ø Assists in walking the rods when laying down and picking up rods
Ø Ability to correctly rig the Geronimo up and down
Ø Responsible for setting up and running tongs
Ø Assist in pipe tallying, pipe handling, and nipple up and down of BOP units
Ø Ability to rig up and down and operate mud pump and tank
Ø Responsible for keeping equipment, work site, dog house and tools clean and in good working order
Ø Assist in the daily inspection and maintenance of equipment and tools which may include cleaning, greasing, oil changes and other duties assigned
Ø Drives the crew truck and operate equipment as needed
Ø Attend and participate in daily JSA and routine safety meetings as scheduled
Ø Responsible to stop work if conditions are unsafe and report concerns and incidents immediately per the standard operating procedures
Ø Complete all safety forms such as near misses, Hazard ID’s, vehicle inspections, and other forms as needed
Ø Assists in training and mentoring trainees and floor hands on day to day operations
Ø When not working derricks, may be required to work floors or operate the rig when applicable
Ø May be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ø Ability to work in a team setting
Ø Competent communication skills, both verbal and written in English in order to understand and give instructions
Ø Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks at once
Ø Availability to work beyond 8-hour work day; available to work weekends and holidays if needed
Education and Experience:
Ø High School Diploma or GED preferred
Ø Minimum one-year experience of workover rig experience preferred
Certifications and Licenses:
Ø Must have valid Driver’s License, Commercial Driver’s License preferred
Ø PEC Safeland Training
Ø Hydrogen Sulfide Safety Training (H2S)
Ø First Aid/CPR/AED
Ø Fall Protection
Ø Confined Space
Ø Loader Training
Physical Demands:
Ø Required to work at significant heights up to or greater than 50 feet
Ø Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach and move about rig location
Ø Exposure to varying weather conditions, such as rain and extreme heat and cold
Ø Exposure to loud noises Required to lift and move heavy objects regularly
