PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for planning, installing, and supporting Cisco UCS environment, servers, uninterruptable power system (UPS) devices, storage systems, and environmental controls for the district’s data centers and other sites.

 

REPORTS TO: Director, Network and Engineering Services

SALARY SCHEDULE: A-5M

WORK DAYS: 250

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field from an accredited college or technical institute OR Technical industry certification (MCSE or CCNP) with three years of work experience as noted below
  1. Experience, Skill, and Certification: 
  • Minimum two years’ work experience in a hybrid LAN/WAN network environment
  • Working technical knowledge of Microsoft IIS, Microsoft ISA, Microsoft SQL Server, and Microsoft Operations Manager
  • Proven experience in the operation and analysis of database hardware, software, and standards, as well as data retrieval methodologies and mainframe applications
  • Extensive practical knowledge in importing data for use in report software, spreadsheets, graphs, and flow charts
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining a variety of server hardware and associated network equipment, including SCSI, RAID, and I/O topology
  • Experience with server performance tuning and monitoring tools
  • General knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN or NAS, as well as Active Directory/Global Catalogue
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Microsoft Window Server
  • Experienced in Active Directory and Group Policy implantation and cleanup
  • Strong familiarity with DNS and TCP/IP networking
  • Strong Skills in VMware 6.5, 6.7& 7.0
  • Hands on experience with Cisco UCS.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and provide documentation covering network hardware, software, and processes
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills including the ability to write comprehensive reports, conduct presentations, training sessions, and meetings
  • Proven interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide excellent customer service and to show teamwork skills even in stressful situations; demonstrated leadership and personnel management skills
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations

Preferred:

  • Advanced knowledge on MS Windows servers, email, and web-based platforms
  • Experience with load balancing, clustering, and caching procedures and processes
  • Proven experience in systems design and development
  • Strong understanding of project management, system design, and development principles
  • Strong knowledge of local area network administration
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and network administration/protocols

Essential Duties:

  1. Manage junior staff to ensure that the District's IT systems are implemented and maintained according to District standards.
  2. Creates and maintains documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
  3. Develops strategies for client/server implementations; architects the infrastructure required to support those strategies.
  4. Leads, coordinates and participates in key process improvements as they relate to the client/server and web-based environment.
  5. Acts as project lead in the design and review of new server systems, applications, and hardware; conduct capacity planning as needed.
  6. Serves as cornerstone for escalating server issues; provides timely response to customer escalations.
  7. Assists in designing and implementing data center/server room security features, including HVAC control, environmental alarms, access restrictions, and so on.
  8. Recommends and executes modifications to server environment in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
  9. Leads, coordinates, and participates in key process improvements for all Windows environments throughout the organization.
  10. Participates in the design and review of new Windows systems and Windows application deployments in both workstations and servers.
  11. Ensures that servers comply with established policies, standards, licensing agreements, security patches, and configuration guidelines.
  12. Reviews and deploys new Windows service packs, hot fixes, system updates, and vendor-supplied patches according to best practices.
  13. Coordinates and performs in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems.
  14. Develops strategies for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems or for further leveraging these systems.
  15. Prepares and delivers reports, recommendations, or alternatives that address existing and potential trouble areas in operating systems across the organization.
  16. Oversees all reports and documentation related to systems operations.
  17. Develops maintenance schedules for systems equipment.
  18. Conducts asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment.
  19. Analyzes existing operations and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of IT systems.
  20. Oversee operations-related projects and project portfolio.
  21. Analyzes system or application usage and plan for growth or increases in server capacity.
  22. Performs cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation
  23. Performs day-to-day maintenance of systems hardware, tape drives, and related equipment.
  24. Troubleshoots and resolves hardware and software problems on enterprise data servers.
  25. Recommends and execute modifications to Windows systems in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
  26. Assists database administrators, programmers, and software engineers in the deployment and performance analysis of new systems and enhancements to existing systems.
  27. Identifies and resolves operating system issues in order to maintain services, enhance capabilities, and prevent system outages.
  28. Conducts research on hardware and software products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
  29. Distributes and supervise server storage space allotments.
  30. Provides on-call technical support.
  31. Manages all data center hardware and equipment, including environmental controls, monitoring systems, and UPSs.
  32. Recommends, schedules, and performs server improvements, upgrades, patches, and repairs.
  33. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will be considered “at will.”  Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade A-5M of the Administrator Scale and allowable experience as determined by Human Resources.  This is an exempt position working  250 work calendar days.
