Description

Savannah Christian Preparatory School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Nurse to oversee the health and well-being of all students on campus. The Nurse will fulfill the mission of Savannah Christian Preparatory School through ensuring a safe and healthy school environment, providing direct care to students, and collaborating with families and staff to promote student health and wellness.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To be successful, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Establish, review and maintain medical and health services programs for the school
  • Provides medical care and services to students according to physician prescribed medical care and treatment orders. Creates    and maintains documentation of all treatment and medical services activity. 
  • Collects and maintains student immunization and other medical records, Follows confidentiality and privacy rules and regulations
  • Coordinates with local health agencies and medical treatment facilities as necessary
  • Monitors, provides assistance, and administers insulin to diabetics, as required. Provides other treatment as necessary
  • Responds to emergency medical situations; performs first aid as needed; coordinates with local emergency personnel and agencies as required. 
  • Administers the school’s Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Policy and Plan; provides training and keeps records as required
  • Coordinate and provide First Aid and CPR training for campus faculty and staff
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and materials needed in the clinic; develops and monitors procedures for maintaining adequate supplies in all school first aid kits.
  • Follows required cleaning and sanitization procedures.
  • Conduct programs and/or activities (e.g. in-service training, student health talks, hearing, distance vision, immunization review, scoliosis screening, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with government mandated requirements.
  • Prepare first aid kits and prescribed student medications with instructions to accompany staff on field trips and retreats. 
  • Immediately report any medical situation of sufficient gravity or concern that could pose a significant risk to a student(s).
  • Report students with reportable contagious diseases to local public health authorities for the purpose of minimizing infection and complying with state and federal legal requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education/Experience: 

  • Minimum of five years’ experience   
  • CPR and First Aid Certified
  • Certified and Licensed Registered Nurse (RN)
  • State licensing requirements must be met and maintained
  • Previous experience as a school or  pediatric nurse strongly preferred

Language Ability:

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, handbooks, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of students and staff.

Reasoning Ability:

Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should demonstrate a high level of computer literacy. Excellent proficiency is needed in word processing, e-mailing, and accessing the Internet.

Work Environment:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Duties may be occasionally performed outdoors or away from school.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Employee must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to walk the campus grounds. Exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer; specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision and Depth perception. 


Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids. Must be alert and awake at all times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. Employee must have the ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal indoor and outdoor spaces and on the telephone; physical agility to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
