What are the responsibilities and job description for the Corrosion Scientist position at Savannah River National Laboratory?
SRNL's Materials Science and Disposition group is seeking a qualified Corrosion Scientist / Engineer to grow the laboratory's portfolio in the areas of materials sciences, materials development for the immobilization of nuclear wastes, and the upcycling of non-nuclear waste types. Successful candidates would have a Ph.D. in a chemical and / or materials related field, demonstrated ability to design and carry out research to leverage new technologies, materials corrosion and performance evaluation, and phenomena, and demonstrated ability to apply and interpret scientific or engineering laws and theories to solve general problems. The role will involve consistent focus in application of research for technologies or products and development of new solutions. Field of Study / Capabilities include but not limited to chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science / engineering, physics and related science or engineering disciplines.
In the role, the candidate will work on interdisciplinary teams to propose and define the scope of technical programs and develop effective and efficient solutions to challenging problems, including development of proposals and funding opportunities for first-of-kind concepts for materials system solutions for :
- materials corrosion assessment in highly radioactive waste environments, and
- materials performance evaluation for variety of assets such as pipeline and large storage tanks, etc.
