Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking an Environmental Engineer, Intermediate. The successful applicant will provide technical leadership for established SRNL environmental and waste programs to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, orders, laws, and site procedures. Selected candidates will assist with operational, engineering, and research and development (R&D) related activities to include performing calculations, providing regulatory guidance, and offering field support as needed.

Responsibilities
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Evaluating potential impacts of regulatory changes on SRNL research and development and operations processes and providing recommendations to management;
- Review and provide support for the development of Environmental Evaluation Checklist (EECs)/NEPA evaluations for Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) Research and Development activities;
- Perform characterization of laboratory chemicals for disposal via the appropriate waste stream;
- Perform hazardous waste determinations/characterizations and assist in the development of documents for shipment of wastes;
- Perform regular facility walkdowns and inspections to ensure facility and project operations meet current environmental program requirements;
- Review and approve operating procedures, work packages, and assisted hazards analysis (AHA) documents pertaining to equipment/parameters that support environmental programs/requirements;
- Develop sampling and analysis plans as needed for environmental compliance or waste characterization;
- Attend plan-of-the-day, plan-of-week, and project meetings as necessary to maintain awareness of facility activities;
- Provide accurate status of pertinent environmental issues; Implement waste management storage and staging requirements;
- Provide input to site-wide environmental reports for the various environmental media and regulations (e.g., waste (RCRA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA), Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA), etc.)), as assigned.
- Review and approval of Site Use/Site Clearance permits; Review and provide support for the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) Operations and Maintenance Plans;
- Support programmatic and/or facility continuous improvement initiatives. Responsibilities also include pursuing implementation of Pollution Prevention / Waste Minimization opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS 4-6 yrs; MS 3-5 yrs; PhD 2-4 yrs
- Degree must be in Engineering or Science related field.
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
- Experience with the regulatory field implementation such as Hazardous Waste, CERCLA, EPCRA and NEPA requirements.
- Field experience required.
- Ability to walk down field sites is also required.
- Experience with South Carolina and federal environmental agencies and their regulations is preferred but not required.
