Job Title: Director of Data Engineering & Safety
Location: Scottsdale, AZ (must be willing to relocate to Phoenix, AZ area to be considered)
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy
- Excellent medical and procedural skills
- Develop and implement a scalable data strategy that aligns with company goals (value-based care, research-grade
stack, and data-driven insights). - Serve as the liaison between the data department and other subsidiaries, ensuring alignment with their needs.
- Define the roadmap for data governance, security, and compliance (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
- Establish processes and best practices for future data team hires.
Hands-on Engineering
- Design and build the initial data infrastructure using Microsoft Azure tools, focusing on scalability and modularity.
- Develop ETL/ELT pipelines for integrating data from multiple sources (EHR, imaging, operational data).
- Set up a secure, research-grade data stack with Azure Synapse Analytics, Data Factory, and Data Lake Storage.
- Ensure data quality, availability, and accessibility for analytics and research.
Skills Required:
Strategic Leadership
- Experience leading or managing small data teams or projects.
- Ability to create a vision for data strategy and translate it into actionable steps.
Technical Expertise
- Advanced knowledge of Azure Data Platform (Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Data Lake Storage).
- Proficiency in ETL/ELT pipeline development and SQL.
- Experience with data modeling and designing scalable architectures.
- Knowledge of data governance and compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA).
Tools this role will use
- Data Integration: Azure Data Factory, Databricks
- Data Storage: Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Synapse Analytics
- Security and Governance: Azure Active Directory, Purview
- Analytics and Visualization: Power BI
- Programming Languages: SQL, Python (for scripting and ETL)
Interpersonal Skills
- Strong communication skills to interact with leadership and technical teams.
- Ability to mentor and guide future hires as the team grows.
Qualifications:
- 8 years of combined experience in data engineering and leadership.
- A proven track record of designing data systems in Microsoft Azure.
- Experience in healthcare or research-related industries (bonus if familiar with HIPAA or clinical data standards like
FHIR/DICOM).
