Purpose
Quality Assurance Inspectors (QAI) are responsible for ensuring quality produce is received in accordance to our company’s standards and USDA guidelines. This position will work closely with the DC management, procurement & retail operations teams to make decisions that will build confidence in our quality assurance program. QAIs must be highly motivated for a fast paced, high pressure, work environment.
Responsibilities
Inspect multiple inbound produce loads in accordance to Save A Lot (SAL) specifications
Monitor produce daily, re-inspect and determine whether product continues to meet SAL specifications, and rotate product per FIFO
Monitor sanitation & storage temperatures in produce area
Compute percentages of defects as outlined in training and fill out daily reports and communicate findings to the corporate procurement department
Utilize tools of the trade including the reading and calibration of thermometers
Use QAI training and visual aids to distinguish color variations as it relates to the judgment of specific product quality
Read and understand government regulations and the variations that pertain specifically to SAL
Operate warehouse equipment safely and in accordance with SAL SOP’s
Participate in continuing education in QA including certifications and web-based training
Communicate daily with the procurement team in reference to SAL product specifications, condition of in-house products, aging of products and vendor managed inventories
Communication with Retail Partners when appropriate
About You
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Must possess good communication skills and the ability to negotiate position and findings on inspections failing to meet SAL specifications as outlined in the QA Manual
Must successfully complete SAL QAI training and certification
2 years of grocery handling experience with an emphasis on produce and/or retail experience
Strong observation, record keeping and communications skills
Ability to safely operate warehouse equipment
Understanding of inventory tracking systems
Proficient with e-mail
Ability to read and understand government regulations
Ability to compute percentages, use/read thermometers, count product and distinguish color variations as relates to the judgment of specific product quality and salability
Skilled handling small tools such as knives, peelers, sizing rings, band cutters, etc.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to bend, twist, kneel, squat, turn, reach, pull, push, balance and lift objects up to 85 pounds, in a fast-paced environment for extended period of time
Must be able to transport various objects weighing 20-85 lbs. repeatedly throughout the shift
Must have the ability to stand, walk and move about for extended periods of time
Must be able to stand and balance throughout the shift while operating industrial equipment
Requires the ability to push, pull, grasp, twist and use sawing motions for extended periods of time
Required to pass physical capacity test at 100%
Regularly works in warehouse environment with heat and cold, including freezers, coolers, and refrigerators in temperatures as low as -15 degrees Fahrenheit
