The Role

As the Advisor, Education in Emergencies (EIE) you’ll be integral to our work in helping vulnerable children achieve a brighter future. Save the Children is seeking an Advisor, Education in Emergencies to serve as a subject matter expert focused on the Education in Emergencies (EIE) needs of children, caregivers, and communities. In this role, you will support the EIE strategy for the Program Design & Impact Department, design programs and trainings, manage grants, support research, and build staff capacity to implement EIE interventions.

EIE Strategic Development (30%)

  • Supports the development and leads the implementation of the EIE strategy in partnership with key stakeholders for the USP division.
  • Identify and utilize evidence and best practices for EIE program implementation from across the USP Division, Save the Children movement, as well as other peer implementing agencies.
  • Develop, standardize, and support implementation of program approaches for Child Care (0-5), Elementary Schooled-based programming (5-12) and Out-of-school-time care for both communities with Save the Children presence (e.g. PI or HS) and those without Save the Children presence.
  • Support and understand that Diversity Equity and Inclusive programming is a key to our success for children and families and proactively develops both programmatic and operational approaches that leads to inclusive programming and learning for all.
  • Support the development of short-term emergency response plans; conduct risk assessments during emergencies and identify strategic partners to engage with to support the goals of the emergency response.
  • Develops programs in line with our Child Safeguarding (CSG) approaches and proactively seeks to improve operations and programs with an eye towards children’s safety and Save the Children’s CSG policies.

Serve as Education in Emergencies Technical Lead for U.S. Programs (30%)

  • Provide Education in Emergencies expertise to the entire USP division that enables appropriate program support for both small and large-scale responses.
  • Serve as the technical lead of all EIE programming and trainings used across the division focusing on continuously improve trainings, guidance materials, program kits, and other related processes to improve the quality of our programs, services, policies and practices.
  • Identify, develop and implement additional EIE trainings and programs for children and caregivers as identified across the USP division and the movement.
  • Deploy to domestic responses, 1 to 2 weeks at a time, as the EIE lead and other roles, and serve as a program backstop, as needed.
  • Provide guidance and input on EIE emergency response and recovery strategies
  • Manage EIE grant deliverables, monitoring objectives, deliverables, and advise on the design of MERL plans and program data ; including surveys. Feedback forms and evaluations
  • Partner with MERL to design appropriate research and learning approaches with a focus on measuring outcomes for children through EIE programs.

Partnerships Development (20%)

  • Work with the External Affairs, Community & Program Partnerships, and Program Implementation teams to educate and motivate key regional and national stakeholders to invest their time and resources emergency responses; support the identification of partners, networks, and coalitions, encouraging knowledge sharing and increasing awareness and support of potential shared initiatives.
  • Identify and cultivate appropriate implementation partners, including local and state Education agencies communities impacted by disaster or crisis.
  • Manage program implementation partners, provide training and technical assistance, negotiating agreements and budgets, and monitor financial and program data.
  • Participate, manage, and lead national level working groups focused on the mental health and Education in Emergencies needs of children.

Fund Raising (20%)

  • Inform and execute fundraising activities in partnership with division and agency fundraising teams; co-develop strategies for acquiring funds or gifts-in-kind, prospect for opportunities, cultivate donor relationships, and support the development of proposals and reports.
  • Work with the resource development team to identify potential donors, grant and research opportunities and provide technical inputs into EIE related proposals and streams of work.

Required Qualifications For The Role

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Services or related field or equivalent experience, plus at least seven years of relevant experience
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Willingness to travel 30% of the time.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Extensive experience in large matrix organizations with a distributed workforce and various service lines in multiple state and communities throughout the United States
  • Experience adapting to new projects, initiatives and technologies based on partner need, donor requirements, and accessibility in different locations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills; ability to convey complex strategic plans and ideas in simple appropriate ways to staff, partners and donors
  • Experience delivering training in multiple formats to a diverse set of participants
  • Valid US Driver's License
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English

Preferred Qualifications For The Role

  • Previous experience with emergency responses
  • Spanish language capabilities

Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $108,800 – $121,600 base salary 
  • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $98,600 – $110,200 base salary 
  • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $88,400 – $98,800 base salary 

The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record. Actual base salary may vary based on, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here).
