The Role

As the Senior Director, Philanthropy Communications, you will play a crucial role in maximizing private sector support through the development of high-quality content that effectively positions Save the Children with high-value donors across various channels. You will oversee the team’s communications pillar, ensuring the creation of accurate, timely, and compelling materials for private donors and prospects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Optimize private fundraising (40%) :

Manage editorial production calendar and set editorial tone and style for communications.

  • Modernize donor communications with effective tools and practices.
  • Assess the impact of our communications and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Understand competitive landscape and differentiate Save the Children in the donor market.
  • Provide creative oversight on content for high-level donors.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications teams.
  • Lead content development for emergency responses (40%) :
  • Assess media coverage and develop compelling communications plans for private donors.

  • Provide essential tools and resources for fundraisers.
  • Identify content asset gaps and maintain knowledge management systems.
  • Work with account managers to develop compelling proposals.
  • Manage the Communications Pillar (20%) :
  • Oversee communication staff and assign priority projects.

  • Hire external consultants as needed.
  • Train and develop staff, fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in communications and / or new business development at a nonprofit organization.
  • Prior experience in international development, especially in emergency response.
  • Extremely effective communicator with the ability to tailor information for private audiences.
  • Strategic thinker capable of mobilizing support across functions.
  • Inclusive leader adaptable to a fast-moving environment.
  • Willingness to work unconventional hours during emergencies.
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite and English.
  • Compensation

    Save the Children offers competitive salary ranges based on location :

  • Geo 1 : $108,800 – $121,600
  • Geo 2 : $98,600 – $110,200
  • Geo 3 : $88,400 – $98,800
