Objective
The EHS Director ensures the physical and mental integrity of each employee while at work by maintaining safe work behaviors, safe work conditions and a safe work environment. This position is responsible for overall employee health and safety for our plants across the country, including safety programs, systems, policies, training, machine guarding, risk management, Federal and State OSHA compliance, and audits. This position will assist EHS Managers with overall plant environmental programs, systems, policies, training, Federal and State EPA compliance and audits.
What you'll be responsible for:
- Proposing, developing, implementing, and promoting all programs and strategies in the area of Environmental, Health, and Safety for Savencia Cheese USA
- Identifying and analyzing risks and hazards at all locations and proposing corrective actions, training, documentation.
- Applying knowledge of safety and sustainability practices to oversee a variety of activities, including but not limited to industrial hygiene, ergonomics, emergency management, environmental protection, and occupational safety.
- Establishing and following up on training programs for new hires, existing employees, visitors and contractors.
- Performing Safety Assessments, audits, and training and maintaining records.
- Leading as a key resource for Safety Committees, responsible for follow up action items.
- Performing accident, incident, and near miss investigations, root cause analysis, and implementing safety action plan.
- Ensuring all employees follow safety policies and procedures and working with management to implement corrective action, training, or disciplinary action.
- Tracking and reporting Safety Data.
Supervisory Responsibility: Manages a Safety Officer at each plant location and is responsible for their performance management and hiring of new Safety Officers when needed.
Travel: Domestic travel is required for this position, approximately 25% of the time to other company locations. Some international travel may be required.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Health and Safety, or related discipline
- Three plus years of increasing environmental, health and safety experience in a complex, fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Expertise level of experience in risk analysis
- Experience leading safety and risk analysis projects and initiatives
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations, OSHA hazard communications accident investigation, and safety training methods
- Knowledge of industry best practice regarding safety and environmental approaches
- Experience working with a diverse group of people
- Forklift Training certification, First Aid/CPR/AED certification, First Responder Training, Hazardous Safety Certifications or the willingness to become trained in these areas
Preferred Education and Experience
- Professional experience in a food manufacturing environment
- Implementation experience with state air permits, storm water permits, and waste management systems
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish or English/French)
