Job Description
We are seeking a credentialed Safety Manager with 7-10 years of experience in the manufacturing safety field to oversee the commissioning of a 150,000-square-foot biopharmaceutical facility in Tarzana, CA. The role will focus on ensuring compliance with safety regulations, managing critical safety programs, and maintaining a safe environment for 20-40 workers on-site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Development and Implementation of Safety Programs: Create and manage comprehensive safety programs tailored to the unique risks of the biopharmaceutical industry, ensuring compliance with OSHA and industry standards. Programs will cover biological hazards, chemical safety, PPE, and emergency response.
- Permit to Work (PTW) System Management: Oversee and enforce a robust PTW system to manage high-risk operations, including electrical work, confined space entry, and hazardous material handling.
- LOTO and Arc Flash Risk Management: Conduct Lockout/Tagout and arc flash risk assessments to mitigate electrical hazards, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and proper use of PPE.
- Product-Specific Safety and Compliance: Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of sensitive biological materials while complying with FDA and GMP standards.
- Fall Protection Program: Implement and manage fall protection measures, including harnesses, lifelines, and scaffolding inspections, while providing workers with appropriate fall protection training.
- Hazard Assessments and Site Inspections: Conduct regular inspections to identify and address safety risks, ensuring compliance with LOTO practices, fall protection protocols, and chemical safety procedures.
- Emergency Response and Incident Management: Lead emergency response efforts, conduct root cause analysis for incidents, and implement corrective actions.
- Administrative and Documentation Oversight: Maintain detailed records of safety procedures, training certifications, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance for audits and internal reviews.
- Training and Worker Engagement: Develop and deliver OSHA-mandated training, product-specific safety protocols, and site-specific safety meetings to reinforce a safety-first culture.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, operations, and quality assurance teams to integrate safety considerations into the commissioning process and ensure a smooth plant startup.
Preferred Minimum Requirements:
- 7-10 years of experience in safety management, with a focus on manufacturing environments
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry-specific safety standards
- Experience in managing safety programs for large facilities, including LOTO, arc flash, and fall protection
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
