REPORTS TO: Community Manager and Assistant Community Manager
SUPERVISES: Recreation Staff
EFFECTIVE DATE: February 2025
PRIMARY PURPOSE: To provide management of the community’s recreation amenities and programs including all aquatic facilities, ski area, activities for seniors, youth and adults. The Director of Leisure and Entertainment assumes full responsibility for planning, organizing and supervising the development, implementation and administration of recreation and social programs for SCECA.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
1. Develop, coordinate, and direct a comprehensive year-round recreation program for all ages that emphasizes good sportsmanship, competition, health, and fitness instruction and both passive and active recreational opportunities for the entire community, including entertainment for the restaurant.
2. Manage and promote increased member participation and community volunteerism.
3. Serve as liaison to the Recreation Committee and assist with all matters related to planning and facilitating community events and activities. Collaborate with Department Heads and Committees in developing community events and programs.
4. Ensure close coordination and communication with the Communication Assistant regarding events and programs. Use creativity to build new programming opportunities and understand what our residents would like to see in event programming.
5. Provide the necessary training and leadership to ensure that Recreation staff consistently deliver exceptional customer service. Ensure proper recruiting, training, supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of all Recreation staff. Develop and evaluate all departmental operating procedures on a regular basis.
6. Responsible for identifying, reporting, and following up on maintenance and housekeeping issues as they arise to ensure that amenities remain clean, well maintained, and adequately stocked with needed products and supplies.
Maintain on-going inventory of all recreational supplies and equipment.
7. Responsible for approving Recreation staff’s hours to ensure an efficient payroll process.
8. Assist in the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets for the Recreation Department, monitors expenditure, approves purchases, and maintains participant activity reports at all amenities.
9. Oversee all requests for room and equipment rentals, reservations, meetings, and events, including set-up, break-down, billing and post event inspections.
10. Fill in all staff position(s) as may be required.
11. Open and close facilities as needed.
12. Perform such other management and administrative duties as directed by the Community Manager or Assistant Community Manager
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
1. Three to five years of experience in Recreation Management/Recreation Programming. Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or related field preferred.
2. Must have knowledge of PC/Windows/MS Office.
3. Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and conduct effective oral presentations.
4. Must adapt to changes in the work environment, while managing competing demands.
5. Must be able to work cooperatively with staff, volunteers and members.
6. Ability to work independently without constant supervision
7. Ability to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
8. Must possess valid driver’s license.
9. Must pass a Criminal Record Check and a PA Child Abuse History Check.
10. Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated machines which include a motor vehicle, computer, printer, facsimile machine, copy machine, calculator, telephone, etc., and tools such as hand tools, small power tools, etc. Required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
2. Required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear and smell.
3. Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors, at times during inclement weather.
SAFETY HAZARDS OF THE JOB:
1. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
2. Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
3. Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
