REPORTS TO; DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
DEPARTMENT: MAINTENANCE
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Performs various skilled and unskilled tasks in the construction, maintenance service, and repairs of SCE facilities, including but not limited to plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, machine servicing, electrical or vehicle repair. Is knowledgeable in the procedures and safety measures in one or more areas of specialty trade. May require a high school diploma and 2-4 years of experience in facility maintenance or a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
Employment Standards:
1. Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
2. Frequently required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear and smell.
3. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and at times loud when operating equipment.
4. Work is performed inside and outside with exposure to inclement weather and unpredictable situations.
5. Must be in S.C.E.C.A. issued uniform while on duty
6. Attendance at maintenance-related seminars/training classes is recommended for all personnel.
7. Winter operations, Mandatory Snow removal, and/or plowing.
HAZARDS OF JOB:
1. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places, and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risks of electrical shock, and vibration.
2. Must occasionally lift and/or move heavy objects.
3. Construction job site activities, which may include walking, climbing, and bending, in a normal construction environment. This may include exposure to the natural elements, dust, insects, and conditions that could be hazardous or dangerous relative to construction sites. 4. The nature of the work also requires the employee to climb on ladders, use power, noise, and vibrating-producing tools and equipment, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, and work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions which subjects the employee to traffic, mechanical, and electrical hazards. Incumbents may be required to work at heights, underground, and in tight spaces.
5. Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, grasping, and making repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties.
6. Throughout the winter season works with and operates snow removal equipment, (plows, cinder spreaders, snow throwers, and shovels) during cold, snowy, icy, slippery, and otherwise extreme weather-related conditions. This may lead to fatigue, exhaustion, back injuries from shoveling, frostbite, and slips/falls.
7. Outdoor operations throughout the spring, summer, and fall present hazards from extreme rainy, and stormy weather. During these conditions, employees may be subject to heavy shoveling, raking, and moving of wet, heavy material from ditches and roadways. Operation of equipment, (chainsaws, pry bars, air compressors for jackhammering attachments) in stormy weather requires caution when using
8. Machinery and tool operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but is not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hard hats.
