Direct Support Professional - Next Steps
SAW, Inc. is seeking a dynamic, compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our team in supporting young adults with developmental disabilities as they transition from high school to adulthood. This position focuses on helping individuals develop and strengthen their employment skills, explore career paths, and build greater social skills and independence.
As a DSP, you will play a key role in creating and implementing individualized transition plans and vocational training tailored to each persons unique strengths, interests, and goals. Youll support participants in gaining real-world work and life experience through employment opportunities, volunteer placements, and other meaningful community engagements.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with team members to develop and carry out personalized transition plans.
- Provide training to assist individuals to achieve their life goals.
- Support individuals in building employment readiness, independent living skills, and social engagement.
- Facilitate and supervise community-based experiences such as job trials, volunteering, and career exploration.
- Encourage self-advocacy, independence, and skill-building in a supportive, respectful manner.
- Involve individuals in planning individualized activities programs, oversee individuals' participation, and advocate for individuals regarding their needs, preferences, interests, and rights.
- Assist individuals to expand their social network.
- Plan and provide transportation to community outings in SAW vehicle.
- Complete assessments and documentation to show individuals improvements and continued support needs.
- Work with community agencies/employers, volunteers, and other SAW staff.
- Provide supervision, instruction, and support to ensure the health and safety of the individuals.
- Assist individuals to learn strategies and provide support to manage conflicts and mental health difficulties.
- Administration of medication and first aid response under the direction of a SAW Inc. nurse.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Must have and maintain a valid drivers license and driving record that meets the underwriting criteria of the agencys insurance company.
- Must have reliable transportation with the ability to arrive to work on time every day.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Obtain/maintain CPR/First Aid and DODD certification.
- Ability to push/pull/lift 50 pounds.
