Sawtooth Mountain Clinic (SMC) is looking for someone who is passionate about community mental health, and who has experience and interest in programmatic development and team leadership to be our next Behavioral Health Director.
Job Summary:
The Behavioral Health Director is responsible for the overall direction and supervision of Behavioral Health (BH) services for Sawtooth Mountain Clinic (SMC). In addition to BH Director duties, this role performs a designated number of hours of direct patient care per week, providing diagnostic assessments and non-pharmacological treatment to patients of all ages with a wide range of mental health conditions in an integrated primary care setting. The BH Director works with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and SMC’s health care team. This role includes professional collaboration as well as independent responsibility and accountability in decision-making.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: BH Director
- Responsible for leadership, management, and continuous improvement of SMC’s BH program, including management of BH grants and BH programmatic development
- Advises Senior Leadership regarding the development, growth, and overall vision of SMC’s BH Department
- Effectively manages BH team:
- Aligns BH employees with organizational priorities and maintains a strong focus on their engagement and accountability
- Provides day-to-day supervision of staff including scheduling, payroll approval, staff quality measures, and staff periodic evaluation
- Identifies and addresses training and development needs of direct reports
- Leads SMC BH QI/QA efforts and BH Peer Review process, facilitates BH Team Meetings, and ensures BH Policies and Procedures are up to date and reflective of current standards of practice
- Routinely collaborates with SMC CMO and clinical staff to ensure appropriate consultation and integration
- Liaises with SMC Medical team and Cook County Public Health team re Substance Use Disorder treatment and recovery services
- Actively contributes to SMC strategic planning and guides futuristic planning for BH program
- Manages external relationships to enhance and expand BH services at SMC, e.g. MNACHC BH Roundtable
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Outpatient Therapist
- Assesses and diagnoses patients utilizing specialized knowledge, skills, and assessment tools
- Develops patient care/treatment plans based on defined areas of clinical expertise, risk, and overall patient care complexity
- Completes diagnostic assessments in accordance with standards of care
- Identifies desired patient outcomes, evaluates and monitors patient outcomes and response to care
- Plans, implements, and conducts patient/family education, as appropriate
- Documents patient care in the clinical record according to clinical guidelines and professional standards, communicating significant changes in patient status and treatment goals
- Assists providers/patients with acute mental health needs outside of scheduled appointments, when needed, consistent with current integrated behavioral health models
- Consults with supervisory, care team, and consultants, as needed and required
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness by participating as an active member of the patient care team
- Complies with organizational policies, procedures, standards of care, and related laws and regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA regulations

- Abides by all federal and state laws, licensing board requirements, and SMC policies and procedures
- Plans, organizes, and multitasks
- Performs other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications:
- Current Minnesota license as a LICSW, LMFT, or LPCC
- Master’s degree or higher in psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy
- Minimum of two years experience with programmatic development or team management
- Minimum of two years direct patient care; experience in a primary care setting preferred
- Team care model experience, patient-centered care philosophy
- Proficient in the use of computer software to document clinical care, and in the use of Microsoft Office applications
- Knowledge of:
- assessment, planning, implementation, and care coordination in mental health
- standards for care/treatment plan development
- patient rights principles
- Skill in:
- diagnosing patient conditions
- interpreting findings from clinical evaluation and diagnostic tests
- risk assessment and intervention
