Sawyer County is hiring an Administrative Assistant

In our Zoning and Conservation Department!


This position assists in researching processing and filing Land Use Conditional Use Special Use Signage and Property Address applications/permits and Certified Survey Maps. Prepares and maintains Federal building statistical reports and Census reports. Additionally this position is responsible for the filing processing and indexing of Certified Soil Tests and Sanitary Permits. Receipts and accounts for all revenues received for the Department. Provides a quarterly report regarding the issuance of County Sanitary Permits to the State of Wisconsin. Reads and interprets maps and legal descriptions. Assists in counseling clients and perspective property owners of zoning land use sanitation subdivision and floodplain regulations. Assists in maintaining department records and perform general administrative assistant tasks. Responds to phone and counter inquiries. Schedules office appointments and field onsite visits for other staff.

High School diploma or equivalent and two years office experience with competency in computer use. Associate degree or higher is preferred or an acceptable combination of education and experience

Competitive wage and benefit package includes health insurance Wisconsin retirement pension fund life insurance sick and vacation leave and holiday pay. This is a 40 hour per week position with a beginning wage of $19.24 to $20.34/hour DOQ.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position assists in researching, processing, and filing Land Use, Conditional Use, Special Use, Signage and Property Address applications/permits, and Certified Survey Maps. Additionally, this position is responsible for the filing, processing and indexing of Certified Soil Tests and Sanitary Permits. Receipts and accounts for all revenues received for the Department. Provides a quarterly report regarding the issuance of County Sanitary Permits to the State of Wisconsin. Reads and interprets maps and legal descriptions. Assists in counseling clients and perspective property owners of zoning, land use, sanitation, subdivision and floodplain regulations. Assists in maintaining department records and perform general administrative assistant tasks. Responds to phone and counter inquiries. Schedules office appointments and field onsite visits for other staff.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides general administrative office support, including preparing documents, reports, brochures, charts, news releases and mailings, filing, copying, scanning, and developing and maintaining databases.

Zoning Responsibilities: Maintains expert knowledge of the County zoning ordinance and working knowledge of the County subdivision, wind energy and floodplain ordinances. Reviews and files applications for Land Use, Conditional Use, Special Use, Signage, Property Address permits and Inspection Reports. Creates reports based on the issue of permits. Receipts and accounts for all revenues received for department permits.

Updates County databases. Mails copies to applicants, Towns, and Town Assessors.


POWTS Responsibilities: Maintains working knowledge of POWTS rules/regulations. Researches, files, and indexes Certified Soil Tests; reviews, processes, and files Sanitary Permits. Creates reports based on the issue of Sanitary Permits. Receipts and accounts for all revenues received for Certified Soil Tests and Sanitary Permits. Updates County databases.


Land & Water Conservation Responsibilities: Maintains working knowledge of the activities related to the soil and water conservation programs, including providing information to the public and clerical support for tasks related to grants, educational and technical programs administered by the Department.

Perform related duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

High School diploma or equivalent and two years office experience, with competency in computer use. Associate degree or higher is preferred, or an acceptable combination of education and experience. Qualifications: proficiency and accurate typing using a computer; ability to operate a variety of office machines and computer programs; ability to read and comprehend instructions, and write short correspondence and memos; must possess excellent oral communication skills; ability to perform basic mathematical functions; must have common sense understanding to carry out instructions; must possess a high degree of organizational skills. Individuals in this position must maintain confidentiality of clients, staff and department information, must be able to meet the public and get along well with others. Accounting knowledge is beneficial but not required.


The person in this position must be able to interact with the public. Sufficient vision is necessary to read small print, detailed maps and aerial photographs on paper or computer screen.
