What are the responsibilities and job description for the Harvest Cellar Hand position at Saxum Vineyards?
Job Summary
We are seeking Cellar Hands to assist with vinification tasks during the harvest season. This is a temporary position that will end when harvest activities come to a close.
Responsibilities
- Clean all winery equipment and facilities
- Pump overs and punch downs (lots of punch downs)
- Drain, shovel, and press tanks
- Rack and pump juice and wine; move hoses and equipment
- Fill, top, and rack barrels
- Operate crusher, presses
- Assist full-time crew with receiving fruit, sorting, and crushing/destemming
- Update, follow, and observe all safe cellar practices
- Perform other duties as assigned by the winemaker
Requirements
- Available to work every Saturday and Sunday from mid-September to November
- Previous cellar experience (preferably during a harvest season)
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Frequent standing, stooping, and bending
- Work in warm and cold climates
- Comfortable working in high places
- Work on wet surfaces
- Physical stamina to endure multiple long days during the harvest season
- Take initiative and be willing to ask questions before completing tasks
- Punctual and reliable
- Ability to comfortably hang out with coworkers during down times
- Exhibit respect, helpfulness, a positive attitude, and caution at all times
- Must be someone who pays close attention to detail when handling a luxury wine brand
- Must carefully handle all winery equipment to prevent unnecessary breakage
