Saybrook Fund Advisors, LLC (“Saybrook”) is a Santa Monica-based registered investment advisor that pursues tax-efficient returns for its clients through opportunistic, credit-driven, municipal investments. Saybrook offers two investment strategies. The municipal opportunity fund strategy focuses on investing in distressed and defaulted municipal obligations that are over-leveraged and underperforming situations which often require additional capital. The credit opportunity separately managed account strategy leveraged Saybrook’s deep credit knowledge to identify special situations and yield-focused municipal bonds that Saybrook believes are undervalued or misunderstood by the markets.
Overview
The Analyst will primarily assist the credit opportunity strategy by researching and monitoring portfolio investments through review and analysis of financial and operating data. The Analyst will work closely with the Portfolio Managers to support investment decisions through fundamental analysis of municipal credit quality, reviewing public sources of financial and operating disclosures, investor holdings reports and additional research. The Analyst is expected to have initiative to follow through, and to respond appropriately to work requests.
The position is in-person based in Chicago, Santa Monica, or Redwood Shores.
Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
- Conduct basic credit analysis for portfolio investment monitoring
- Facilitate deal-sourcing process by collecting, analyzing, and presenting information
- Conduct outreach to various parties to collect additional information needed to support investment thesis and models
- Compile, prepare, and analyze various research reports
- Support investment monitoring through various activities including tracking operations, analyzing financial statement disclosures, and reviewing primary and secondary market sources of information
- Reconcile end-of-day trade processing and cash reconciliation with the administrator and prime broker
- Maintain daily internal reporting systems and produce portfolio monitoring reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
- Support financial reporting processes
- Perform additional miscellaneous assignments per executives’ direction
- Continually expand technical skills and knowledge of municipal credit quality analysis, to better the efficiency and productivity of this position
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2-5 years of fixed income or municipal bond investment experience
- General knowledge of business and corporate procedures
- Computer literate in Bloomberg and MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
- Must be able to work in a highly collaborative, team-oriented framework
- Sense of humor
