EDUCATION
A high school diploma or equivalent required; specialized banking education and training preferred.
EXPERIENCE
A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a retail banking position, with 2 years of supervisory experience, normally required.
PREFERRED SKILLS
Responsible for directly managing the Universal Bankers in a specific location in order to provide efficient and accurate paying and receiving services and to control bank-wide vault cash; participating with the Head of Retail Banking in establishing specific goals for the unit; determining work procedures and expediting work flow; insuring unit compliance with all operating policies and procedures; directly supervising assigned personnel; communicating with appropriate personnel; providing periodic reports.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for reviewing securities held by all appropriate trust accounts and making investment recommendations; implementing strategies to achieve goals developed for the department as part of the Bank’s annual operating plan; ensuring the department's compliance with operating policies and procedures and outside regulatory requirements; directly supervising assigned personnel; communicating with appropriate management and staff personnel; providing periodic reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Performs a variety of duties to support the retail sales function of which the following are illustrative:
a. Performs all the duties of a Universal Banker II to actively service customer needs.
b. Opens and closes the financial center as needed.
c. Initiates, develops and maintains customer relationships; performs daily tele-marketing.
d. Provides direct sales and service to customers of the bank with respect to deposit products and services; cross-sells other products and services, e.g., loans, trust, etc., as needed and in accordance with established goals.
e. Completes the documentation and performs point-of-sale processing on all types of new accounts, e.g., loans, deposits, etc.
f. Provides support to office retail sales personnel engaged in establishing quantitative retail sales and sales objectives on an annual basis as warranted; this activity to be integrated with the office's annual marketing/sales plan.
g. Provides assistance, as requested, to office retail sales personnel involved in soliciting new business from present and prospective customers; maintains ongoing business relationships with present customers in order to take advantage of additional cross-selling opportunities.
h. Provides retail sales information on a timely basis in order that this information may be included as part of monthly and year-to-date performance reports.
i. Maintains a thorough knowledge of the features and benefits of all bank products and services in order to ascertain customer needs and to participate in selling in conjunction with these needs, e.g., trust, investments, commercial and mortgage lending.
j. Assists customers in obtaining specialized services from other bank departments as necessary; provides help to customers with specific inquiries or service problems.

k. Maintains an awareness of new business opportunities with customers; actively refers customers to appropriate sales personnel as warranted when these opportunities are available.
l. Provides vault cash support to maintain dual control.
m. May perform a variety of duties relating to the support documentation and reporting for Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs).
2. Directly supervises assigned personnel as follows:
a. Assists in the selection of new personnel as appropriate.
b. Makes provisions for the proper orientation and training of new personnel; trains new personnel as required.
c. Reviews employee performance throughout the probationary period and on a regularly scheduled basis thereafter.
d. Organizes, schedules, and distributes work among assigned personnel.
e. Keeps personnel informed of pertinent policies and procedures affecting the unit and/or their jobs; creates an atmosphere in which upward communication from employees is encouraged.
f. Administers personnel policies and procedures as established by bank policy.
3. Coordinates specific work tasks with other personnel within the unit or department as well as with other units and departments in order to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information.
4. Abides by the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment which is free of sexual harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the work place.
5. Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the bank's compliance with all regulatory requirements, e.g. Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act, etc.
6 . Reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor as requested, or according to an established schedule; compiles information as necessary or as directed and provides data to appropriate bank personnel.
7. Responds to inquiries relating to his/her particular area, or to requests from customers, other bank personnel, etc., within given time frames and within established policy.
8. Assists the immediate supervisor with various administrative tasks to support department/unit operations, as directed; may also be assigned special projects.
ANCILLARY DUTIES
1. May be required to provide safe deposit box services to customers.
2. May be required to balance and/or service ATM machines.
3. May be required to verify and wrap coin for vault cash control purposes.
4. Performs multiple tasks, duties, and jobs throughout the division, department, or unit in a way that permits the Universal Bankers to be assigned to various activities, depending upon the characteristics and volume of the work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than two-thirds of the time.
