Program: Community Services for Families (CSF)

Status: Part time, non-exempt 

Hourly rate: $24 per hour

Location: Classes conducted virtually via Zoom. 

Schedule: Monday – Friday: 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. Teaching two classes per week for a total of approximately 2.5 – 7.5 hours per week.

Program

SBCS’s Community Services for Families program enhances parents’ abilities to create stable and nurturing environments; ensuring children at risk of removal remain safely in their homes and coordinate timely reunification of families. Services include Family Support Partners, Parent Partners, Family Support Clinicians and Group Parenting Classes for parents with children up to age 17.


RESPONSIBILITIES

The CSF Group Parenting Educator (GPE) under the supervision of the Program Director and Department Director is responsible for providing services to SBCS’ culturally diverse families and/or individuals and the community. The Group Parenting Educator will facilitate free virtual sessions to help parents understand their child’s development, cultivate parenting techniques and skills and receive support from other parents. Classes are available in English and Spanish for families with children up to age 17. Services will be in keeping with the agency goals, objectives, mission and style provided within a team framework. Associates are responsible for working with the team in developing team goals and objectives and in meeting those goals and objectives. 


DUTIES:

  • Works with parents to teach, model and provides virtual group parenting education classes to support parents acquisition of parenting skills to maintain children in their homes or to return them to the home setting. 
  • Adheres to Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) Curriculum
  • Prepares virtual sessions to present to parents
  • Creates a supportive and positive classroom environment. 
  • Maintains records of student attendance.
  • Models effective parenting techniques and teaches parents about appropriate discipline and nurture for their child’s development needs.
  • Completes all required paperwork in a timely and routine fashion.
  • Communicates with Child Welfare Services (CWS) Social Workers and other involved parties as requested.
  • Works collaboratively and communicates appropriately with other staff members.
  • Provides safety planning and crisis intervention as needed.
  • Helps build the family’s natural support system by referring and linking the family to resources.
  • Maintains and completes client case files and documentation in required agency database (s) in accordance to Agency standards.
  • Adheres to agency client confidentiality, HIPAA, and mandated reporting policies.
  • Attends all agency required trainings, staff meetings, and activities.
  • As other duties assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum 2 year’s of experience in child development, behavior management, youth and family services, preferably in a community-based or neighborhood service organization. 
  • Ability to work with a diverse cultural population, possess cultural sensitivity, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.
  • Experience working with families who have been involved or have been at risk of being involved with Child Welfare Services preferred.
  • Experience facilitating or leading groups and knowledge of teaching methods. 
  • Work hours will consist of afternoon and evening hours. 
  • Ability to work remotely and independently, completing and submitting work on time. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Experience and familiarity with MS Office Suite programs.
  • Must be proficient in and be able to facilitate client meetings using Zoom video conferencing technology.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employment may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of certain background clearances which may include a Department of Justice criminal background check requiring my fingerprints (Live Scan), screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website, drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, and such additional clearances as may be required under the program. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Mentally and emotionally: Ability to work under deadlines, various projects and dealing with clients in crisis and difficult situations.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift. 
  • Moves throughout the building. 
  • Moves, raises, or lowers (includes upward pulling) an object or equipment up to 50 lbs. 
  • Transports an object, from 20 to 50 lbs. across the facility, for various needs.
  • Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force. 
  • Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force (includes jerking) 
  • Ascending or descending stairs and ladders when applicable. Body agility is emphasized. 
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when ascending, descending, traversing.  
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles. 
  • Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with objects or office machinery. 
  • Communicating: Expressing or exchanging ideas. Communicating is important for those activities in which workers must impart information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately, or quickly.
