Status: Non-exempt, regular, full-time

Hourly rate: $23 per hour

Location: Fair Winds Family Resource Center 

Schedule: General program operating hours are Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Start and end times may vary but this is an 8-hour workday. Must be available to work until 8 p.m., two evenings per week to meet the various needs of the program.

Program

SBCS’ Community Assessment Team (CAT) & Juvenile Diversion (JD) program works to keep kids in school and out of the Juvenile Justice System by providing early intervention/prevention to youth and families. Embedded in the Youth Prevention & Intervention (YPI) Team, the program provides an array of support services for first-time youth offenders, runaways, youth on Probation, and non-offenders and their families.


Position Summary:

The Community Assessment Team (CAT) & Juvenile Diversion (JD) Youth and Family Development Associate (YFDA) under the supervision of the Program Coordinator & Program Director is responsible for providing intervention services to school age youth (ages 6-18), who may be at risk of entering the justice system. Services will be in keeping with agency goals, objectives, mission, and style and provided within a team framework. The CAT & JD YFDA works one on one with youth building a relationship of trust, empowering the youth, addressing their needs, developing skills and realistic goals, and providing positive opportunities to avoid justice system processing.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide various direct one on one services when working with at-risk youth including Individualized trauma-informed case management and working with youth and their families to connect them with needed resources. Some of the resources they may be connected to include individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, advocacy, support, and other services. 
  • Complete comprehensive family-based assessments for identified youth and develop strength-based service plans including goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate with police, probation, and other agencies for continual service of clients, including presentations to other service agencies.
  • Facilitate group sessions and/or presentations on topics such as youth leadership, anger management, parenting skills, independent living skills, and gang involvement prevention, if needed.
  • Meet assigned scope of service and maintenance of case files and assist in writing of quarterly and annual reports including accurate and timely submissions of required reports.
  • Maintain documentation, data collection and contract compliance of client records in the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) database as required by SBCS and its funding sources.
  • Complete monthly statistical reports of services provided as required by SBCS.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy standards in accordance with agency and center policies, and applicable regulations and laws including HIPAA.
  • Attending all required meetings and training.
  • As other duties assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or related field.
  • Minimum 1 - 2 years’ experience in child, youth, and family services field. Experience should preferably have been in a community based or neighborhood service organization. 
  • Experience in the areas of individual, group, and family counseling, outreach, community education and development, advocacy, and case management.
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish, required.
  • Ability to work with confidential information.
  • Flexibility to provide support services at client’s homes, or other locations accessible to clients.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population, possess cultural sensitivity, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employment may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of certain background clearances which may include a Department of Justice criminal background check requiring my fingerprints (Live Scan), screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website, Probation Clearances, drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, and such additional clearances as may be required under the program.
  • Candidates/employees who have received a conditional offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for controlled substances, (including THC and CBD), in accordance with the County of San Diego's drug and alcohol policy and the federal Controlled Substances Act.
  • Candidate is required to have reliable transportation; therefore, the candidate must successfully complete a motor history check. Candidate must also possess and maintain a current valid California driver’s license and valid auto insurance policy. (Approximately 15% - 20% of the time.)

Physical demands:

  • Mentally and emotionally: Ability to work under deadlines, various projects and dealing with clients in crisis and difficult situations.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift. 
  • Moves throughout the building. 
  • Moves, raises, or lowers (includes upward pulling) an object or equipment up to 50 lbs. 
  • Transports an object, from 20 to 50 lbs. across the facility, for various needs.
  • Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force. 
  • Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force (includes jerking) 
  • Ascending or descending stairs and ladders when applicable. Body agility is emphasized. 
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when ascending, descending, traversing.  
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles. 
  • Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with objects or office machinery. 
  • Communicating: Expressing or exchanging ideas. Communicating is important for those activities in which workers must impart information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately, or quickly.
