Position Summary


Are you driven by the urgency to make a difference and passionate about helping communities rebuild after disasters? SBP is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to step into the Director of Recovery Programs role, where you’ll lead efforts to set a new standard for disaster recovery and resilience. This role is pivotal to ensuring SBP’s owner-occupied rebuild program is innovative, efficient, and impactful, helping communities recover faster and more effectively. Working closely with senior leadership, you will champion a culture of continuous improvement while directly supporting and empowering teams to deliver results.


As the Director of Recovery Programs, you will take the lead in standardizing processes and developing training initiatives that ensure consistency and excellence across all rebuild sites. You’ll play a hands-on role in problem-solving, stepping in during critical vacancies to maintain operational momentum, and guiding local teams to improve processes and outcomes. With a strong focus on data analysis and impact reporting, you will provide insights that shape smarter decision-making and strengthen program effectiveness.


This position offers the opportunity to work directly with SBP’s network of Executive Directors and managers across multiple locations, creating wide-reaching impact and driving systemic improvements. Frequent travel to disaster-impacted communities will allow you to collaborate on the ground, applying your expertise to help shape recovery efforts and bring SBP’s mission to life. Responsibilities 


Operations Management

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director to align goals, performance metrics, and strategic priorities across SBP sites.
  • Implement communication and accountability systems to track key performance indicators and address risks.
  • Use data analysis and value stream mapping to optimize processes and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead improvement projects, developing plans and ensuring progress across multiple locations.
  • Document workflows to standardize operations and provide training resources for team members.
  • Mentor new managers on SBP processes and foster accountability between local and national teams.
  • Facilitate problem-solving sessions using Lean/Six Sigma methodologies to enhance efficiency and outcomes.


Disaster Response and Recovery Program Development

  • Partner with the Senior Director of Recovery Programs to design and launch new SBP rebuild operations, focusing on program structure, local staffing, and tailored training.
  • Deploy to disaster-affected communities to support the rapid scaling of response and rebuild programs, ensuring SBP’s impact is immediate and effective.
  • Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships and collaborations to expand the reach and effectiveness of SBP’s BUILD program.
  • Provide hands-on management and operational support during critical vacancies within key departments, maintaining program continuity and effectiveness.


Requirements

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in team and program/operations management, with 3-5 years of senior leadership experience preferred.
  • Skills: Expertise in process improvement, change leadership, and effective team management, coupled with strong decision-making and communication abilities.
  • Alignment: A passion for SBP’s mission to create resilient communities and the resilience to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Technical Savvy: Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma methodologies, data analysis tools, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to travel one week per month to disaster-impacted communities and availability to work occasional evenings or weekends.
  • Compliance: Must be able to pass FBI, state, and sex offender background checks.
