Excavation Field Working Foreman
Objective:
The Excavation Field Working Foreman is responsible for supervising and working alongside a team of excavation crew members, ensuring that all assigned tasks are completed on schedule and in compliance with safety and quality standards. This role requires strong leadership skills, hands-on heavy equipment operation experience, and the ability to manage day-to-day excavation activities in a variety of construction environments.
Requirements:
Technical & Job-Specific Expertise (50%)
- Operate and oversee heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, skid steers, and dozers.
- Perform tasks such as digging and backfilling foundations, trenches, and footings.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with OSHA regulations and safety standards on-site.
- Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and building codes accurately.
- Maintain equipment functionality through routine inspections and servicing.
Leadership & Team Management (30%)
- Supervise, guide, and motivate excavation crew members.
- Delegate tasks, train team members, and ensure follow-through on work quality and deadlines.
- Foster a positive team environment while addressing and resolving conflicts tactfully.
Communication & Coordination (20%)
- Maintain detailed records, including daily logs, safety meetings, and equipment service schedules.
- Collaborate with other departments, including Accounting, HR, and Construction Management.
- Communicate effectively with other stakeholders to resolve issues or adapt plans as needed.
Education and Experience:
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL preferred).
- 3 years of construction leadership experience.
- Extensive hands-on experience operating heavy equipment.
- Proficiency with earthmoving techniques and interpreting construction blueprints.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and excavation competency training.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Construction Management.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Commercial construction experience in sewer, water, and concrete projects.
- Familiarity with GPS/Trimble systems.
- Knowledge of routine equipment maintenance.
Physical Requirements:
- Work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.
- Lift, carry, and adjust objects weighing 75–100 lbs.
- Engage in physical activities such as bending, climbing, squatting, and trench work.
Schedule & Travel Requirements:
- Regular in-state travel is required.
- Work approximately 45–55 hours per week (Monday–Friday), with occasional overtime.
- Overnight stays near job sites as needed.
