OBJECTIVE: Groundskeeping laborer is a hands-on physical role ensuring that outdoors spaces are safe, clean, maintained, and attractive.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Mowing grass.
- Plants grass, shrubs, trees, and flowers.
- Maintains and repairs storm water retention ponds, fences, gates, retaining walls, rock gardens, outdoor lighting, and other design features.
- Digs trenches and levels ground.
- Applies mulch, fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.
- Maintains green spaces by weeding, trimming, and pruning.
- Removes unwanted or unhealthy plants, shrubs, and trees, as well as downed limbs.
- Operates hand tools and power equipment, including mowers, leaf-blowers, weed trimmers, skid steer, and chainsaws.
- Provides customer service to tenants.
- Rakes leaves and other vegetation from lawns and flower beds.
- Removes trash and other debris from outdoor areas.
- Operates snowblower equipment and shovels.
- Works with other maintenance crew and construction specialists as needed.
- Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment required to complete landscape projects
- Transport materials using shovels, wheelbarrows, carts, dollies, and hand lifting/carrying
- Periodically operate heavy equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- High school graduate or GED equivalent is required
- Must have valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to and from the job site
- 1-2 years groundskeeping experience
- Principles, materials and methods of grounds maintenance and repair
- OSHA 10 certification or the ability to obtain one in 90 days
- Understanding of landscaping equipment, including safe operating practices and signs of maintenance issues
- Ability to operate various types of equipment associated with landscaping/grounds and snow removal
- Self-motivation and the ability to work autonomously
- Ability to follow detailed instructions
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications
Preferred:
- 5 years of experience in a groundskeeping role
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Frequent bending, kneeling, twisting/turning, crouching, crawling
- Ability to climb, work on and carry a ladder
- Comfortable working at various heights
- Ability to navigate diverse terrain
Work Environment: Work is generally performed in an outdoor environment. This position involves working in all climates as well as multi-story buildings in various property locations. This role routinely is exposed to dust and noise associated with groundskeeping/landscaping equipment.
Special Requirements: This position requires regular in-state travel with the ability to work 45 - 50 hours per week Monday – Friday, with occasional hours outside of that range as business necessitates. This position may require travel between multiple job sites in the same day.
