OBJECTIVE: Works with and through management, to ensure compliance with all safety and health standards. Creates and implements company-wide safety program, policies, procedures, and training.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee all safety operations, watching for practices and processes that violate safety policies or create a dangerous situation, taking measures necessary to create a safe working environment
- Provide safety training documentation for employees on policies, regulations, and procedures
- Organize and conduct safety training sessions for employees at all levels to ensure they are aware of safety protocols, equipment operation, and procedures
- Make recommendations to management, executives, and individual employees for ways to improve safety and efficiency
- Inspect and verify company compliance with relevant safety regulations
- Inspect machinery and facilities daily/weekly to ensure they are in proper working order and no safety hazards are endangering any employees
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas of potential non-compliance and develop action plans to address any issues
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, safety-related issues, and external auditors, coordinating responses to inquiries and requests for information
- Coordinate with HR to maintain records of injuries, accidents, and safety violations, and prepare reports
- Maintain accurate and current records in accordance with guidelines
- Analyze incident reports, metrics, and injury case studies to institute changes that lead to a safer environment
- Monitoring staff to evaluate if they are following health and safety protocols
- Investigating accidents in the workplace to evaluate how safety measures can be improved
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Compliance, or related discipline and/or equivalent experience
- Must have valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to and from the job site
- 3 years of safety management experience
- Risk assessment/management experience
- Ability to create administrative policies and procedures
- Extensive knowledge of health and safety protocols
- Conceptual planning ability
- Conflict management and problem-solving skills
- Leadership ability
- Multi-tasking ability
- Excellent attention to detail
- Outstanding communication, meeting, and presentation skills
- Continuous improvement mindset utilizing technology tools
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to learn other software
- Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, OSHA, 30-hour Construction Safety and Industry Standards, or ability to achieve within 60 days
PREFERRED:
- Construction industry experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Frequent bending, kneeling, twisting/turning, crouching, crawling
- Ability to climb, work on and carry a ladder
- Comfortable working at various heights
- Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions as needed
- Ability to move safely on construction sites, undeveloped land, and uneven terrain
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires regular in-state travel with the ability to work 40 - 50 hours per week Monday – Friday, with occasional hours outside of that range as business necessitates. This position may require overnight stay near job sites regularly and/or travel between multiple job sites in the same day.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office setting at corporate office location in combination with regular onsite visits to active construction and property sites. This role routinely is exposed to dust and noise associated with construction work and involves working in all climates as well as multi-story buildings.
