Responsibilities
The Patient Account Representative registers patients and processes related paperwork. Duties include interviewing patients, preparing standard registration forms and performing other admission related tasks. May be expected to perform other clerical work. The PAR will function within the Center’s policies and procedures, support SCA Values, SCA Vision and SCA Mission.
JOB KNOWLEDGE :
Verifies insurance benefits and obtains necessary information needed to submit claims to insurance companies. Obtains pre-certification or prior authorization, if required.
Prepares patient charts and enters patient information into computer.
Interviews patients, relatives or other responsible individuals to obtain identifying and biographical information. Interprets hospital regulations to patient concerning pre-operative requirements. Explains rates, charges, services, and hospital policies regarding payment of bills.
Makes copies of ID, insurance cards, etc.
Obtains signatures from patients for insurance filing and admission papers.
Collects monies due at time of admission and gives payments to appropriate personnel.
Answers telephones as needed.
Performs other miscellaneous secretarial duties as needed.
Learns all other aspects of billing, scheduling, etc., for optimal efficiency of the Business Office.
Performs all other duties assigned by supervisor.
Secondary Responsibilities :
Back up PBX / Reception area and insurance verification.
