Payroll and Benefits Specialist

The Payroll and Benefits Specialist will support and handle all payroll and compensation matters from weekly payments, commission and bonus calculations, writing weekly and month payroll reports, researching competitors and market compensation packages including employee benefits. This role is for someone who is ready to act as the internal contact person for employees with questions on payroll, benefits, and compensation matters. This role is at our Boise, ID headquarters and this a non-remote position.
What You Will Do
- Enter, maintain, process and support payroll including timesheets, wages, commission, bonuses, payroll changes, new hire information and other payments for a multi-store, multi-state accurately and confidentially.
- Accurately calculate and issue paycheck, mandatory and voluntary deductions including taxes, health benefits, 401(k), HSA contributions, garnishments, liens, direct deposit request and other transactions as needed and as issues arise.
- Research, compare and advise management on compensation matters including federal and state employment regulations, tax changes, minimum wage rates, benefits and compensation policies, human resource procedures, and collective agreements in the US.
- Initiate ACH transfers of direct deposit payments, 401(k), HSA contributions, process manual checks and upload pay files to the bank.
- Analyze and research job requirements and evaluate compensation to ensure the company is competitive in the areas of salaries and employee benefits.
- Gather data from market-based compensation surveys; uses spreadsheet and data analysis techniques to assess results and market trends and make recommendations based on findings for existing benefits and policies.
- Work hand-in-hand with our Benefits department including being:
- An advocate to our employees on benefits information.
- A resource and point of contact for all benefits related inquiries/claims.
- A supporter to process documents regarding leave-of-absence and any other personal, medical, disability, FMLA inquiries.
- Support filing for quarterly and annual federal and state reports and audits as directed.
- Regularly complete and return employee’s verification of employment forms.
- Partner with our Benefits Specialist with ad hoc projects and assignment.
- Perform other special projects or duties when required.
Who You Are
- 1 – 2 years doing payroll or payroll related matters in the accounting or human resources team.
- Strong with payroll systems and love explaining salary and compensation to current and new employees.
- Enjoy and have knowledge of human resources law, regulations and best practices with a keen eye for compensation analysis.
- Familiar with wage and hour law on the state and federal levels and likes to monitor state by state regulation changes.
- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- Prolonged sitting, standing, moderate reaching and occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.
- Occasional overtime and weekend work and travel to other locations.
- Our positions require successfully completing the pre-employment background check and signing a nondisclosure agreement.
Education: Bachelor’s degree with focus in Business, Accounting and/or Human Resources Management, preferred and not required.
