Scarsdale Community Baptist Nursery School (SCBNS) is seeking an enthusiastic and
experienced Nursery School Director for the 2025-2026 school year. SCBNS is a Christian
nursery school in Scarsdale, NY, offering a half-day morning program for children ages 2, 3,
and 4 from September through June, with an optional summer camp. The school fosters a
Christian environment and prepares children for kindergarten readiness through a play-
based academic approach.
The Director reports to the Nursery School Advisory Board (NSAB) and oversees all aspects
of school operations, including staff management, enrollment growth, parent
communication, budgeting, and curriculum development. This role is crucial in maintaining
a nurturing, hands-on Christian learning environment while positioning the school for future
growth.
Salary
- $40,000 - $45, 000 base salary bonus incentive plan
Responsibilities
School Operation's & Leadership
- Maintain and enhance school routines, policies, and procedures to ensure a healthy,
loving, and nurturing Christian environment.
- Lead and support staff, including head teachers, teaching assistants, substitutes,
and volunteers.
- Invest in staff professional development to enhance teaching quality and best
practices.
- Develop and implement a play-based curriculum aligned with national best practices
and Christian values.
- Be a hands-on leader, actively involved in daily school operations, including
assisting with student transitions (e.g., stairs, playground, bus pickup, etc.).
Student Enrollment, Marketing, Community Engagement
- Grow school enrollment through strategic marketing and community outreach.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for current and prospective families, providing
tours and responding to inquiries.
- Organize family engagement events, such as picnics, holiday celebrations, and
community gatherings.
- Manage email communications, website updates, social media, and create flyers
and marketing materials (Canva proficiency preferred).
- Administrative, Compliance Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with New York State nursery school regulations (NYSED
Chapter II, Section 125).
- Maintain accurate student and faculty records in collaboration with Church
Administration.
- Provide progress reports and attend monthly NSAB meetings.
- Oversee facility maintenance and improvements, coordinating with the SCBC Sexton
and Board of Trustees.
Financial Management
- Develop and manage the school budget, ensuring responsible financial oversight.
- Work with Church Administration to support teacher requests, classroom needs,
and facility maintenance.
- Purchase necessary classroom supplies and equipment.
Personnel Management
- Hire and manage teachers, teaching assistants, and substitutes.
- Develop and oversee staff schedules to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Conduct monthly staff meetings on curriculum, policies, and collaboration.
- Ensure all staff maintain training and emergency preparedness certifications.
Curriculum, Program Development
- Implement a play-based curriculum that fosters early childhood development and
aligns with Christian values.
- Stay updated on the latest early childhood education research and best practices.
- Organize educational visits from community professionals (e.g., firefighters, police
officers, dentists).
- Support teachers with lesson planning, curriculum development, and classroom
observations.
Desired Skills, Experience
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education (N-
6), or a related field.
- Preschool teaching experience required – candidates must have direct experience in
early childhood education rather than solely middle or upper-grade levels.
- New York State certification (or equivalent) in early childhood, kindergarten, or
elementary education (N-6 or K-6) preferred.
- 2-5 years of teaching experience in early childhood education.
- Technical skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word) and Canva for communication
and marketing materials. Familiarity with The Church Co app is a plus but not required.
A willingness to learn new applications is highly valued.
Christian Leadership, Community Engagement
- Commitment to Christian values and ability to integrate Christian practices (prayer,
Bible stories, etc.) into the curriculum.
- Strong ability to build relationships with parents, staff, and the local community.
