PRE-CONSTRUCTION/DORCHESTER SURVEYS/06340 A high school diploma and six (6) months of experience that is directly related to the area of employment; or relevant experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Under general to limited supervision, performs duties in a preconstruction survey crew as instrument man. Establishes line and grade for proposed highway and provides needed field information to design and prepare detailed plan for highway construction. Uses specialized survey equipment including manual total station, data collector, and level to proficiently perform survey operations in establishing controls, line and grade, records topography, and records measurements of elevations, angles and distances; including the location of property boundary lines. Surveys ground control for aerial mapping. Stakes project right of way lines and makes calculations of horizontal and vertical curve alignment.. (E) 20 02. Performs surveying duties with the Global Positioning System (GPS) and Robotics total station including surveys for preliminary design purposes and the location of wetland boundaries. (E) 20 03. Proficiently performs rodman duties including operating level and level rod to determine elevations and total stations for line of sight. Uses prism pole to provide alignment and collect topography, Uses prism to measure angles and distances to locate property boundary lines. Stakes project right of way lines. Uses two-way radio to relay proper descriptive information to crew member. Provides assistance to other employees in rodman duties. Clears brush for line of sight and takes measurements as needed. (E) 10 04. Maintains and records field notes which includes profile, cross sections and topography. Reduces level notes to check for elevation precision. Computes traverses to check proper closure. Using computer checks accuracy of electronic notes. (E) 10 05. Under the direction of a SC registered land surveyor, performs courthouse research to locate tax maps, deed, plats and other documents and obtain property ownership from county courthouse. Performs field research to locate property lines and corners and assists in plotting property information. Locates and obtains utility data. (E) 10 06. Assist with the operation, calibration and maintenance of basic equipment and assist with the overseeing job safety including placement and maintenance of signs. (E) 5 07. Trains in matters relating to highway design to include factors affecting location, such as land use, safety and cost. (E) 5 08. Assists with the setting and surveying of ground panels to establish the coordinates and elevations of panel points for development of photogrammetric topographic mapping.(Further includes the surveying to determine if the position of specific points identified on the photography for photogrammetric mapping conforms to the applicable standards and specifications within the prescribed mapping accuracy (E) 5 09. Maintains personal daily work log. Utilizes ESS in SCEIS to enter work time with charge codes and leave requests.
