Job Title: Diesel Locomotive Mechanic
Reports To: Operations Manager

Location: Varies depending on train schedule.
Compensation: $20-$25 per hour depending on job experience
Job Summary: Inspect, maintain and trouble-shoot diesel locomotives in accordance with Federal and state regulations, including 92 day and Annual inspections. Preference will be given to candidates who possess an understanding of electrical and hydraulic systems and/or possess any trade skills such as welding or machining. Company can provided some on the job training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understand and follow all Federal, Company and AAR regulations.
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections and repairs on all necessary parts and components relating to diesel locomotives as required, including some railroad specific components, while working in a team environment
- Assist in tracking, updating, and filing required documents in accordance with FRA regulations.
- Help complete all required FRA, OSHA, and Company documentation of work performed on locomotives and equipment including repair reports.
- Evaluate and recommend repair/replacement of equipment, parts and components.
- Interpret verbal/written instructions and specifications, including reading blue prints, manuals and electrical schematics.
- Assemble/disassemble parts and components of diesel locomotives and other equipment.
- Perform basic locomotive servicing and daily inspections on equipment and diesel locomotives.
- Identifies FRA and AAR running defects.
- Understands how to safely coordinate and jack railroad rolling stock.
- Service and maintain locomotives brake shoes, lube oil, water & treatment, sand etc.
- Trouble-shoots any train air brake system issues.
- Work with other departments as part of a team to provide passengers/guest with positive memories.
- Must have a positive attitude and work well with management and other employees.
- Other duties as requested by VP/GM, and/or AHR/GSMR senior management.
Requirements
Education, Skill and Work Experience Requirements:
- Preference given to candidates who have familiarity with EMD engines with Dash 2 and or Dash 3 systems or other relevant diesel electrical experience.
- Able to, or capable of learning to, read and understand locomotive electrical schematics and diagnostics.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English.
- Ability to be on your feet for up to 12 hours.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to ascend/descend train steps/ladders and crawl on, under and around locomotive and passengers’ cars while performing needed maintenance functions.
- Good balance/equilibrium: walk on moving trains, graveled, uneven and/or sloped surfaces that may be wet/slippery while carrying lantern and flashlight.
- Must possess organizational skills with ability to multi-task while prioritizing workload with practical, flexible and innovative approach to work.
- Ability to communicate successfully with a variety of personalities and function effectively as a member of a team.
- Pre-Employment & Random Drug Testing program in compliance with company policy.
- Take & Pass GCOR Rules Test.
- Must pass pre-employment Fit-For-Duty physical evaluation.
- Valid Driver License.
- Welding, machining, or other trade skills a plus.
Work Environment:
- Work on and off the train in varied terrain in all weather during both daylight and dark hours.
- Work with mechanical shop setting and railyard during maintenance of locomotives, passenger’s cars, MOW equipment, etc. Must be willing to travel when necessary for job related duties.
- Varied schedule throughout the year dictated by train schedule and maintenance operations including emergency situations.
- Must be willing to work long hours when needed.
