What are the responsibilities and job description for the Oil City YMCA Aquatics Coordinator position at Scenic Rivers YMCA?
Under the direction of the Senior Associate Director, the Aquatics Coordinator supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Aquatics Coordinator shall maintain a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and coordinates all aquatics programs and activities, while also recruiting, training, and retaining quality staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Plans and implements aquatic program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands the aquatics department within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
2. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
3. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance, develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current, complete, and compliant with mandatory requirements.
4. Monitors daily pool operations in compliance with all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
5. Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pool, including maintaining accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
6. Organizes and oversees lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings. Provides Lifeguard In-services 2 times monthly, during the 1st and 3rd week of each month, including morning and evening options.
7. Fully executes schedule of swim classes, water fitness classes, and other scheduled events in the pool.
8. Acts as an integral part of the YMCA River Otters Swim Team including but not limited to supervising coaches, maintaining records, and working with the Sr. Associate Director to ensure a successful team approach.
9. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
10. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
11. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
12. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility, with YMCA members, guests, participants, and other YMCA employees. Communicates any pool emergencies to Sr Associate Director and Membership Coordinator.
13. Compiles program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation
in program by computing cost analysis forms for each program. Due to Sr Associate Director by the 15th of each month.
14. Teach a minimum of 5 private lessons each week.
15. Create monthly lifeguard schedule and accepts responsibility for shifts that are not staffed. This may include working after 4pm and some weekend days.
16. Have a full understanding of all pool emergencies:
a. AFR: Accidental Fecal Relief
b. Weather-related emergencies
c. EAP: Emergency Action Plan
17. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must have two to three years of aquatics experience, preferably in a lead/management position.
2. Must be lifeguard certified, or obtain within 30 days.
3. Minimum age – 18 years or older.
4. Requirements within 30 days of hire include:
a. YMCA required clearances and background check.
b. All required YMCA trainings and courses.
c. CPR/AED Certified.
d. Completion of YMCA program-specific and trainer certifications.
e. Other trainings as assigned.
f. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 28 per week
