Primary Responsibilities:
- Focus work on the achievement of the Board Goals as related to special education programming
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to oversee the operation of the Special Education Department
- Plan and support the Extended School Year program
- Oversee and evaluate special Education Coordinators and Program Specialists
- Oversee and evaluate special education coaches and administrative staff
- Oversee and assist in the evaluation of SSTs in IC programs (ID, DHH, ASD, IC-ED, IC-cross-cat, and TDS)
- Facilitate weekly special education coordinator and program specialist team meetings
- Facilitate weekly special education coach meetings
- Collaborate with the Executive Director of Special Education around effective instruction and intervention for students with disabilities
- Provide guidance with curriculum development and implementation for all special education academic programs
- Support building-level professional development plans targeting instructional program needs
- Coordinate interdepartmental district-wide professional development
- Plan and organize district-wide professional development for special education programs
- Coordinate and direct the identification, placement, IEP development and procedural safeguards of all students eligible for special education assistance
- Oversee training for progress monitoring tools
- Oversee the curriculum and training for Tier III programs
- Support training for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) through the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)
- Oversee district information and training related to DLM and alternative report card
- Oversee district information and training related to IAR assessment accommodations
- Act as district liaison for community interagency organizations including Northwest Suburban Autism Consortium, Coalition for Positive Youth Development (CYPD)
- Coordinate with local organizations and agencies to provide resources for wrap around social emotional support for families
- Oversee and support the Autism Resource Center (ARC) and Special Olympics
- Coordinate acquisition of materials through the Illinois Instructional Materials Center (IIMC) and Lighthouse for the Blind for the VI program
- Provide support to teams by attending building CST meetings for designated instructional programs and IEP meetings
- Facilitate challenging CST problem-solving meetings and IEP process meetings
- Coordinate private school TDS placements with district, private facilities, and parents
- Plan, direct and coordinate program articulation efforts related to: Inclusion; Integration; Resource programs to/from self-contained classes; Termination/transition plans; Early childhoo to elementary to junior high; General education to/from special education; and District 54 to District 211
- Assist in the hiring of exceptional personnel for all areas of special education
- Perform such other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education
