What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary Principal position at Schaumburg Community Consolidated School District 54?
Twelve-month, full-time position for the 2025-2026 school year.
The principal is the chief executive head and the instructional leader of the school. The principal is responsible for planning and implementing the instructional program in their building. They are responsible for administering and supervising the total operation of the school. The principal's prime concern is improvement of instruction. The principal endeavors to provide the best possible educational opportunities for all children. As the chief executive of the school, the principal shall be responsible for the implementation of Board of Education policies and administrative regulations. The principal shall act in an advisory capacity to the superintendent and the assistant superintendents in matters pertaining to the building curricula, instruction and staff development. They shall be responsible for the evaluation of personnel assigned to his/her building.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop, advocate, and enact the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of District 54. Ensure the high-quality education and academic success and well-being of each student.
- Act ethically and according to professional norms to promote each student’s academic success and well-being. Implement strategies and systems to manage conflict.
- Strive for equity of educational opportunity and culturally responsive practices to promote each student’s academic success and well-being. Foster a climate of belonging, dignity and inclusion.
- Develop and support intellectually rigorous and coherent systems of curriculum, instruction, and assessment to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.
- Cultivate an inclusive, caring, and supportive school community that promotes the academic success and well-being of each student. Utilizes district resources and outside agencies to support students and families.
- Develop the professional capacity and practice of school personnel to promote each student’s academic success and well-being. Recruit, hire, support, develop, and retain effective and caring teachers and other professional staff and form them into an educationally effective faculty.
- Foster a professional community of teachers and other professional staff to promote each student’s academic success and well-being. Promote mutual accountability among teachers and other professional staff for each student’s success and the effectiveness of the school as a whole.
- Engage families and the community in meaningful, reciprocal, and mutually beneficial ways to promote each student’s academic success and well-being. Engage in regular and open two-way communication with families and the community about the school, students, needs, problems, and accomplishments
- Manage school operations and resources to promote each student’s academic success and well-being. Maintain a clean, safe and secure environment for students and staff.
- Act as agents of continuous improvement to promote each student’s academic success and well-being. Engage others in an ongoing process of evidence-based inquiry, learning, strategic goal setting, planning, implementation, and evaluation for continuous school and classroom improvement.
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.
Qualifications:
- Illinois Administrative Certificate allowing the holder to be a school principal
- Minimum two years of experience as a teacher
