Job Summary:
The Instrumental Music Teacher is responsible for providing a comprehensive and engaging instrumental music education program that fosters performance skills, musical literacy, and appreciation for music in students. The teacher will create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes active music-making, develops instrumental technique, and cultivates a lifelong love of music.
Job Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development and Instruction:
- Develop and implement engaging instrumental music lessons aligned with the District 54 Curriculum, Illinois Learning STandards, and national music education standards (NAfME).
- Teach a variety of musical concepts and skills, including instrumental technique, music theory, music history, and ensemble performance practices.

- Utilize a diverse repertoire of music from various genres, cultures, and historical periods.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Integrate technology and 21st-century learning skills into music instruction.
Ensemble Leadership:
- Provide instruction and feedback to students on rehearsal techniques, performance practices, and musicality within the context of ensembles and small group lessons.
- Plan and conduct rehearsals efficiently, maximizing student learning and engagement.
- Foster a positive and supportive rehearsal environment that encourages musical growth and teamwork.
Performance and Production:
- Plan, rehearse, and direct student performances for school and community events.
- Prepare students for concerts, contests and festivals.
- Collaborate with other music teachers and school staff to coordinate concerts and performances.
Assessment and Evaluation:
- Regularly assess student progress in instrumental music using a variety of formative and summative assessment methods.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to support their musical growth and development.
- Maintain accurate records of student participation and progress.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with colleagues to integrate music into other curriculum areas.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about student progress and music program activities.
Professional Responsibilities:
- Maintain professional competence through participation in professional development opportunities.
- Stay current with best practices and trends in instrumental music education.
- Contribute to the school community by participating in committees and other activities.
Other:
- Manage instrumental music equipment and supplies, including instruments, sheet music, and technology, ensuring proper care, organization, and maintenance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building or district administration.

Minimum Requirements:
- Professional Educator License Music with grade range of current credentials or Special (Music) (K-12) endorsement
- Teaching and playing knowledge of all wind, string and percussion instruments.
