Teaching positions are available for the District 54 Extended School Year (ESY) summer school program. Staff orientation will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, with students attending June 10, 2025 - July 16, 2025. June 19 and July 3 are non-attendance days. Staff hours for ESY are 8:15-11:45 a.m.
Primary Responsibilities: Provides itinerant services to the child who attends a regular class or a special services program. Obtains visual information on each visually impaired child through observations, informal testing and an ocular form filled out by the child's ophthalmologist or optometrist. Works with the child study team to diagnose and evaluate the child. Develops goals and objectives for each child. Consults with the child's teachers and other involved staff to plan an appropriate program for the child. Meets with the child's parents to share information. Supplements and reinforces classroom teaching. Gives instruction in areas not offered in the regular classroom, such as orientation and mobility, typing, braille, daily living skills, and adjustment strategies. Utilizes technology and other adaptive resources available for use with the visually impaired student. Orders materials for the visually impaired child, such as large print or braille textbooks, maps, tests, workbooks, etc. Prepares materials by taping, typing, rewriting or adapting the materials. Shares information concerning community and state agencies and resources available to the visually impaired child. Helps the child function as normally as possible in the school and in the community.
Requirements: Bachelor Degree; Professional Educator License; Minimum 32 hours of special education; Degree in blind and partially sighted; Orientation and Mobility credentials preferred.
Salary: contracted hourly rate
