Receptionist at Volkening Heritage Farm (seasonal, part-time, $15.00/hour)

ABOUT US: The Schaumburg Park District is an award-winning public agency that provides its 80,000 residents with a wide variety of recreational facilities, programs, events, parks and open spaces. Volkening Heritage Farm is a living history museum where visitors can experience life on an authentic 1880s German farm, complete with cows, pigs, chickens, and much more!

LOCATION: Volkening Heritage Farm Visitor Center, 201 S. Plum Grove Road

JOB SUMMARY: The Spring Valley receptionist team provides the first point of contact for customers calling or visiting Heritage Farm. This role is responsible for making guests feel welcome and being available to answer questions and provide information about the site, its facilities, and programs. Responsibilities include helping to orient visitors, answering phones, handling cash register sales, preparing deposits, maintaining neatness of the gift shop, refilling inventory in the gift sales area, some clerical duties, and covering Spring Valley's Nature Center as needed. Weekend responsibilities will include occasionally opening/closing the Heritage Farm Visitors Center.

QUALIFICATIONS:The best applicants must have excellent customer service skills and truly enjoy working with the public. A sincere interest in American history, agriculture, and/or museums would be ideal. Some office/clerical experience required including proficiency with computers and point-of-sale software. Ability to work independently. Flexible nature and willingness to adjust to a changeable pace of work.

SCHEDULING & PAY: This is a seasonal, part-time position running April through November, with a pay rate of $15.00 per hour. The Heritage Farm Visitor Center is open Wednesday through Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. A typical schedule ranges from 12 to 18 hours per week across 2 to 4 days, including some holidays, evening programs, and special events. Best applicants will have weekday and weekend availability.
