Scenic Designer (part-time, $17.50/hour)

ABOUT US: Schaumburg Park District is an award-winning parks and recreation agency that provides its 80,000 residents with a wide variety of recreational programs, classes, and events as well as facilities, parks and open spaces!  Our Cultural Arts Department is home to our outstanding theatre program which hosts various productions throughout the year.

JOB SUMMARY:  The Scenic Designer is responsible for executing the construction of all scenic pieces, from design to load in, ensuring a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. The Scenic Designer will collaborate with the director and production team to conceptualize and create a set that enhances the characters and story telling. They will identify and source building materials, furniture, and other items needed for construction while adhering to budget constraints. The Scenic Designer will occasionally lead a team of community volunteers, ensuring safety is always maintained. They will also effectively manage time to meet deadlines and ensure the set is ready for tech week and performances.

LOCATION: Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Rd., Schaumburg

QUALIFICATIONS:  The preferred applicant will have proved experience in scenic design and construction for theatrical productions. Proficiency in drafting and scenic construction techniques required. Applicant should be a dependable industry professional with excellent communication and collaboration skills who possesses the ability to work within budget constraints and adapt designs based on practical considerations. Looking for someone with passion for the performing arts and a commitment to bringing characters to life through design.

SCHEDULING & PAY:  This is a part-time position with flexible hours depending on performance schedules (some evenings and weekends will be required). Pay rate is $17.50 per hour. Production begins mid-May with shows in mid-July.
