Join an award winning 5 Star Library! The Schaumburg Township District Library is looking for a Circulation Assistant to join our team. We are looking for an energetic, competent and detail-oriented Circulation Assistant to support our Central location. This is a 20 hour a week, part time, hourly position. Hours are as follows and requires flexibility.
- Tuesdays: 3:00PM-9:00PM
- Thursdays: 3:00PM-9:00PM
- Fridays: 2:30PM-7:00PM
Weekend rotation, every 4 weeks
- Saturday: 8:30AM-5:00PM
- Sunday: 11:30AM-5:00PM
The schedules are based on the needs of the library and could change if and when needed. The hourly rate range for this position is $15.00-$18.35; based on skills and qualifications.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Circulation Assistant is responsible for assisting and fulfilling the patrons’ needs in the areas of reception, registration, circulation, placing holds, and addressing overdue matters. The Circulation Assistant may need to register patrons for library programs and activities and can operate and assist them with library equipment and machines. The Circulation Assistant will support Circulation Supervisors in implementing new procedures. The Circulation Assistant is responsible for representing the Library standards, as this position mostly interacts with patrons.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL EMPLOYEES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
- Check-in and check-out library materials; collect overdue fines and fees; sort and pack library materials for transport to Branch locations; search for claims returns; search for hold requests and shelve materials as needed.
- Work at assigned location to help with patrons.
- Assist patrons in locating recreational reading materials; place materials on reserve for patron; search for materials placed on reserve; keep “on-shelf” reserve list up-to-date; call patrons and maintain records for reserve books.
- Process new library patrons; create new library cards; register reciprocal library cards; input information in computer and maintain patron database.
- Register patrons for programs and accept fees, if applicable, for story times, reading programs, crafts, and other special programs; distribute prizes; maintain statistics; and route calls to the appropriate location.
- Assist the public with self-service resources including computers, photocopier, printer, scanner, fax machine, as needed.
- Assist in the opening and closing procedures of the building.
- Attend meetings, training, or Committees as required or requested.
- Abide by all policies and procedures of the Library.
- Address situations where patrons do not comply with the Library’s Code of Conduct.
- Treat all patrons and employees fairly and with an open mind; maintain patron and employee confidentiality.
- Communicate clearly either in person, on the telephone, and in writing.
- Cope with the stress of the job and get along with coworkers.
- Maintain the ability and patience to understand and to be understood by speaking patrons.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications is desired.
