Management
- Train, supervise and evaluate the Teen Place personnel.
- Assist with the selection and hiring of prospective employees; coordinate new hire paperwork; and manage change in status process for additions and changes in personnel.
- Verify and process weekly timesheets of staff.
- Maintain Teen Place desk schedule.
- Work under the general direction of the Youth Department Director.
- Lead or assist in the design, implementation and evaluation of new services and programs that support library initiatives, department objectives and community demand.
- Maintain an environment that attracts and invites youth ages 12-19 to utilize the collections and space.
- Create and implement teen-driven programs and services that meet the needs of our patrons, and evaluate impact and effectiveness through reports, outcome-based measures, survey data, patron feedback, and library programming objectives.
- Develop, track and monitor assigned operating budgets and produce reports.
- Identify and apply for grant opportunities that support library’s mission and strategic goals.
- Advocate for teens and teen services with other community agencies.
- Coordinate teen programming.
- Develop and conduct tours, presentations, and off-site outreach. Provide information, reference services, readers’ advisory to a diverse population.
- Be a creative problem solver, who takes responsibility to satisfy a patron’s request.
- Instruct patrons in the use of the Library’s reference tools and materials, the online catalog, and the internet.
- Work with other library departments to develop large scale intergenerational programs.
- Assess patrons’ needs effectively, either in person, over the telephone, or in writing.
- Work with all age groups effectively.
- Give information, based on a primary source from a reliable authority.
- Serve as “Person in Charge” of Library, in the absence of Executive Director or Management Team member.
- Maintain working knowledge of the Library’s reference tools and materials, the online catalog, internet resources, and social media.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the Library’s circulating collection.
- Stay informed about the names of officials, organizations, clubs, businesses, schools, social agencies, etc., in the Library’s service area.
- Keep apprised of popular trends inside and outside of the library world and apply best practices.
- Keep apprised of the offerings of neighboring public and special libraries.
- Maintain professional involvement in the library science industry.
- Refine or enhance reference skills by reading professional literature and attending seminars, workshops and professional meetings.
- Represent the Library at regional and national professional meetings; attend meetings and trainings as required or requested.
- Stay informed of current trends, emerging technologies, issues and research in librarianship, teen development, education and allied fields.
- Record and analyze statistics, and write reports as needed.
- Participate in library-wide committees and attend monthly meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Masters of Library Science (MLS) from an accredited ALA university or school.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of progressively responsible professional experience is required.
- Experience (2-3 years) working with teams and development programs and services for teens.
