The Position
Schenectady County is currently recruiting for Environmental Health Specialist I. This position exists in Public Health Services and involves the responsibility for assisting in carrying out the more difficult phases of environmental health inspection activities. Employees are responsible for conducting inspections and carrying out specialized phases of the environmental health program. The incumbent in this position gathers information for use by higher-level staff in determining compliance with local and State Sanitation Code requirements. Knowledge of the basic principles and practices related to proper environmental public health inspection techniques, as well as the provisions of the local and State sanitary code related to environmental public health inspections is preferred.
Qualifications
- Graduation with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Engineering, Hydrology, or other science or similar related field; OR
- Graduation with a Associate’s Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Engineering, Hydrology, or other science or similar related field and two (2) years of experience in Environmental Health Protection*.
NOTE: Experience in Environmental Health Protection is defined as conducting inspections or creation or reviews of engineering plans or specifications to determine compliance with federal, state, or local environmental laws, regulations, and established public health standards, OR experience in the identification and notification of public health environmental hazards and the development of methods to eliminate or control such hazards and/or the spread of disease and other environmental factors impacting the heath of individuals and/or the public.*
Special Requirement
Possession of a current valid New York State driver’s license at the time of appointment.
Salary
The annual salary for this position is $ 53,566 per year.
