Qualifications
Education/Certification
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in Special Education
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in Physical Education
- Valid Core Subjects, Content, or Generalist teaching certificate preferred
- Valid Driver's License with driving record that meets the requirements of the district
- Adapted Physical Education Program design, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation
- Ability to modify physical education curriculum based on individual student need
- Basic knowledge of motor development and biomechanics
- Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
- Knowledge of Special Education and Section 504/General Education Homebound mandates
- General knowledge of broad levels of development, instruction, and curriculum (birth-12th grade)
- Special Education classroom teaching experience
- Experience working with students with various disabilities
Adapted Physical Education Duties
- Plan and provide adapted physical education services consistent with Adapted PE goals contained in student's Individual Educational Plan (IEP).
- Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for dismissal from adapted PE services.
- Develop activity modifications and/or alternative activities for individual students; provide equipment needed to execute these modifications or alternative activities.
- Collaborate/consult with general education physical education teachers to ensure student success through use of modifications and program planning.
- Provide general education physical education teachers with updated medical information and restrictions as needed, and address mobility and safety issues within the PE setting.
- Conduct Adapted PE assessments and write assessment reports as part of the Multidisciplinary Team.
- Provide instruction to students who require Homebound Services per ARD or Section 504 committee.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment to meet the individual needs of students.
- Collaborate with teachers, collecting and returning completed assignments.
- Review assigned materials with students in preparation for tests.
- Collaborate with related/instructional service personnel, when needed.
- Implement recommended services/curriculum to the student.
- Monitor student's progress, update IEP's, and communicate effectively with campus staff regarding student performance and progress.
- Keep accurate attendance records and report attendance to the attendance clerk each week.
- Prepare documentation for ARD and Section 504/Homebound meetings.
- Attend ARD and Section 504/General Education Homebound meetings.
- Stay informed of the latest medical recommendations of the referring physician and communicate these recommendations to staff.
- Continue professional growth by participating in professional development opportunities.
- Display proficient levels of technology applications.
- Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
