Schiffer Publishing is a leading independent publisher based in Pennsylvania, specializing in high-quality illustrated books across a wide range of categories, including art, design, pop culture, military history, crafts, mind-body-spirit, kids books, and more.
We're looking for a Publicity Associate to pitch and secure national and local consumer media for our titles across all imprints. This role reports directly to the Executive Director of Marketing & Publicity, has the administrative support of the Marketing & Publicity Coordinator, and requires close collaboration and communication with authors, Marketing, Sales, and other key internal team stakeholders (Editorial, etc.), as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE :
- Pitch and secure national and local consumer media for all frontlist titles across imprints, which includes, but is not limited to :
Coordinating publicity campaigns for assigned titles, under supervision, that include a mix of print, radio, podcasts, TV, online, as needed
Drafting pitch emails and / or press releasesCreating a media outreach pitch list and related contacts for each outlet for each title's publicity campaignOutreach to media contacts on a timely basis ahead of book release datesTracking confirmed media hitsCommunicating confirmed and warm interest media to key internal and external stakeholdersMailing review copies to media contactsLogging and processing publicity related expensesMaintaining and growing media contacts master lists by imprint category, researching new media outlets or contacts for pitching, as neededLiason for book signing details between authors and Sales, for any confirmed events as needed, to ensure books deliver to those related events venues on timeEnlist the help of the Marketing & Publicity Coordinator for help in execution of tasks, as neededAttend Marketing & Publicity team calls with authors and speak to publicity campaign plans, as neededOccasional gift guide pitching, as neededPitch and secure national and local media for select key backlist books, as needed, depending on news cycles, gift guide opportunities, etc. (see related responsibilities, above)Assist Executive Director of Marketing & Publicity with publicity related projects, as might be neededQualifications and Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in communications, or related field preferred1-2 years of demonstrated relevant publicity experience (book publishing experience a plus)Interest in book marketing and media outreachAbility to autonomously multi-task, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectivelyStrong written and verbal communication skillsStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to travel to author and / or industry events, as might be neededMicrosoft and Google suite experienc
